[RBW] Sweater/Top recomendation

2013-10-11 Thread NWAJack
So I live in Arkansas as opposed to MN :), and I'm looking for a good
winter shirt/sweater. Basically I want somthing I can wear riding,
fishing, and hiking in 40-60 degree weather that could also be worn for
general use. Too often now I end up with just a cotton sweatshirt or
something and want something a little nicer and looks better. I'm looking
the WoolyWarm sweaters and also the Assie Wool Crewneck - any suggestions
as to which one?

Thanks,
Jack in Arkansas

[RBW] front or rear rack?

2013-08-25 Thread NWAJack
Hi all. I currently use an acorn handlebar bag on longer rides. I like it,
but it's in the way at times. I'm thinking a small rack might be a better
option. I camp very very rarely and don't do multi day tours, so I don't want
both a front and a rear rack - but which is best? Preferences out there? Bike
is a homer hilsen.

Re: [RBW] Re: Bike Choice

2013-08-02 Thread NWAJack
Similar story. Got into bikes about 5 years ago as an adult in my 50s,
potbelly and bad knees and all. Bought a Trek 1.2 from the lbs. Loved it and
loved riding, but sure got tired and sore after a 40 or 50 mile ride. Started
looking for the carbon bike that everyone said I needed. Then wife bought me
GP's book for christmas. Wow. I can carry things in bags? Things like
sandwiches! Platform pedals? Comfort? Ordered my Homer about 6 months later.
Amazing bike. I now ride 50-100 miles at a time in comfort!!

[RBW] Found the Elfin Magic

2013-05-12 Thread NWAJack
When I purchased and had Keven and Mark build up my AHH a few months ago, I
went with the default 100mm Tallux Stem. I had nothing to compare it
too since I've always road race bikes previously. After 2 months of
adjusting the stem height, saddle tilt, etc. I wasn't able to find a really
comfortable position that didn't put too much weight on my hands. Finally
broke down and used some Riv bucks to bujy a 70 instead. Instant Elfin
magic!!! It's perfect.Very little weight on my hands, and found the
sweet spot for sure. I love it even more.
On a side note, after a ride this morning I switched out the Marathon
Supremes' that I had spec'd originally with some Jack Browns.Green in
front and Blue in the back. I haven't ridden them yet but wow are they
easy to mount. Another winner. :)

[RBW] Re: Help choosing a bike

I think a 19 inch bike is supposed to fit a person about 5'7 tp 5'11 with
an inseem of around 29-31.My PBH is about the same, and I've got a 57

curious for a while now about what the moustache bar is like. That's one of
the fun things about Rivbikes is that you can switch out different styles of
 bars. Drops, Alba's, 'staches, etc...

It is a great ride and the prettiest bike I have seen in the flesh, so to

Enjoy the first pics. I have put Longboard P45 fenders on it since. I hope to

Yeah- haven't touched the weight machine in a while :). I put my acorn bag on
this morning and will get out Saturday to try my best to start getting it
dirty. I name my bikes and I think the Ahh will be known as Jenny - a
road/trail warrier!

[RBW] Re: Does shellaced tape feel crusty?

2013-03-06 Thread NWAJack
So I just got my new AHH from Riv. I ordered it with newbaums white - and
it came with what looks like a single coat of shellac. FYI - but it was
fine for me, I had intended on shellac anyway. You might double check
with Riv if you don't want it shellaced at all.I've got two coats of
amber on my white tape right now. I think it looks and feels awesome.

How does shellaced newbaum's feel? Crusty? Sharp? Scratchy? Looks like it
would encrust the cotton tape in a candy-like coating.

Can the tape be removed and reused, or do you have to cut off like a cast,
 so to speak?

 Just wundrin'.

Not sure. Ive not seen the regular blue in person - but this isn't custom.
Probably my camera. Tape is newbaums white with some amber shellac- two cots
so far.
