Leah: Good ride! A senior lady in our club can hang at 18 on flat roads on

Ah yes, Rivendell models come and go with great frequency. I tell people, if
you see what you like, buy it. Chances are it won't be there later. Some models
were made in more quantity so your chances at a resale are better. Some are
very scarce.
To Doug's comment, I would reply, if you think
VO has on other occasions mimicked what Rivendell has introduced. Usually made
more cheaply and at a lower price point.

Riding on the side wallks is illegal where I live, unless the sidewalk is part

There are a number of models needing to be added. Rosco Bubbe, for example.
Perhaps we can document which RR or blog entry 1st announced and when they were
produced. Atlantis should really be split into the original Toyo/Waterford
design and the current Taiwan (Maxway?) design. They are
Here's a great post from 2015 with a model chronology. Someone who pays closer
attention to the blog/blahg, etc than I do should update the list to add RBW
developments of the past 4 years.

The "original" "Road" in 1995 was the Riv Road (see RR #2) which came out
before the "Standand." It's a nice bike with level TT, normal HT, and
basically a Waterford RS front married to a slack seat tube/long stay RBW rear.
Made from Reynolds 753, drawn heavier wall than normal for RBW.
The color doesn't really matter. Ram is spec'd for 37 mm btw w/o fenders.
It's the lugs, the double taper stays, the combo of HT and non HT tubing for
ride quality, the beautiful fork blade curve, the un dimpled chain stays, the
fillet brazed drop outs, The Panasonic or Urema paint work with
I recall that RBW advertised an 18 lb build by Mark on either the Roadini or
Roadeo a few years ago. My '95 Road is currently 18 lbs. My Ram is 22. I don't
think a Hillborne could get that light. I used to have a Saluki and it ws in
the 25 - 27 range. My point was that no steel bike was going
Rich the BB drop is not excessive on the Road so there is no pedal strike and
also no toe overlap. The BB heights of all my bikes are:

I'm with Don on this. I'd really go for a 25th anniv re-release of a classic
early Riv, The Road, the Long Low, The All Rounder, with the old style Rvendell
decal (which was never used for customs.) GP could take orders and only have
the sizes and qty made that people pont up for. The orig
working with another list member, we found a source in MS who made them for us
at a reasonable price. They came out pretty well I think, and I'll post
pictures after the job is done.

I don't think New Albion is ripping anyone off design wise. The frames are not
Rivendells and don't quite ride like them, but they are nice. Ours came to
$1,100 fully built, which is less than many frame sets only at RBW.

Thank for posting Garth. Interesting. My Waterford has 2 forks with different
rakes and brakes that allow 2 wheel sizes. There is a definate difference in
handling when you change any of those.

Probably a good next thread, but does anyone know what the first Riv ever sold
was? Is it Chris Kosterman's?
Dave: If your bike has a sloping TT and extended HT, it is a Road Standard. My
early one has a level TT and normal HT and is, as shown in RR #2 from early
1995, just called a Road.
This is one of the more entertaining threads for sure. I'm glad that others
also prefer the first wave of Riv bikes. My original Road iis one of the 2
best bikes I've owned. The other is a '95 Waterford that has similar geometry
in lighter tubing. (Riv used heavy wall Reynolds 753.
I don't think they're using actual niobium tubes (these go in nuclear
reactors) but rather an alloy. See this page from Columbus.

I imagine you could essentially order a Rambouillet or Rodeo as a custom and
get it fit to you.

I have a stash off Ibex Duo wool/poly panel shorts that I cut the pads out

have icebreaker bibs with a pad. My favorites are Smartwool Rambition shorts
