Has anyone owned both of these?
Riv lists the banana sax as 7x9x5, which is ~ 5L give or take, probably a
little less given the taper. Berthoud lists the saddle bag volume as 2.4L.
In pics the banana sax does not look twice as large.
Thanks in advance!

Taking a cue from Grant's plethora of front-mounted Bananas, I gave it a whirl

Thanks for the info you all gave me on the banana sax inquiry thread I had.
I got the grey grid. Really glad it looks so nice and fits. I had alot of
questions, so I figured I'd post what I found out when I got mine for
anyone else who wants to know more about the bag.

I am a new owner of a Banana Sack and it has far exceeded my expectations. I
love it. I’m able to fit my phone, glasses, a Ball pint size jar of oatmeal, a
jacket, and have room for more. Its brilliantly designed. I never worry about
anything falling out.

In my use of the scottish waxed canvas Riv uses, and a variety of their
designs, I’ve never had a water entry issue that wasn’t my fault for leaving
the bag open without cover as I loaded or unloaded it in a downpour or
whiteout. Otherwise they’ve withstood days of near solid though varied rain
Riv's bag section says all of them are made from waterproof waxed cotton. Will
your stuff stay dry on a rain ride? Probably. Will it stay dry if the bag sits
outside all day getting drenched? Possibly not. I have a rain cover for a
smallish bag Riv sold me years ago and I never used. If I find

The Banana holds more stuff, but XS has the more secure and easier to use
zipper if that matters to you. For 14 bucks more I prefer the Banana Sax, but
they're both great bags.

To
Banana sax is more accessible than the xs. I’ve found the xs can be a little
challenging to get stuff out of.

I have a banana Dax and I love it. I use it in place of a wedge style bag when
I am just out for a ride. It has larger capacity then the x-small Sackville but
less than the small. As far as small stuff falling out I don’t feel there is
much risk of that. I put my multi-tool and tire irons in a
There's a top and bottom sleeve that fits a wallet and phone tightly, plus a
toggle closure thingy that closes over the big pocket, then another toggle
thingy which pulls the lid down tight. These toggles have an adjuster to snug

Looks like the opening angle and lid are oriented on saddle mounting to
where things could fall out unless there is something to stop that that I
am not seeing in the rivbike pics.
The lid doesn't look so precise as to stop allen wrenches or some other
small stuff from falling out.
Any reviews
The Sax is more like Sackville XS. Much smaller than a Sackville Small.

I am trying to decide between the Sackville small and the Banana sax. Does
anyone have pics and/or comments about the banana sax?
Thanks!

Bags are my Rivendell weakness. Some of your have multiple Rivs - I have one
Riv and make up for it with an array of Sackville bags, ha! I even carry the
gray Grabsack as my handbag, and it’s darling, I might add. The Backabike bags
are my absolute favorite, Patrick Moore, and I think you can

my Appaloosa with Chocomooses? I think it will be great there. These look
really good. Gotta get one!

That is nice! I've owned so many of the smaller Riv saddle wedges or bags,
from the very original, crudely (by later standards) sewn, kitchen table
bag (gave mine to my brother, but ought to get it back to keep if only as a
worthy museum piece) through multiple Bananas, but this looks like a real
