The bike is a treasure. So sure and confident and comfy and beautiful.
It will go anywhere and everywhere. For a very long time.

I went out on the Saturday Gentlewoman's ride with the local Rivsters. I
can't really give a full report, though, because I was too sick with an
upper respiratory thang to venture out in the hills with the rest of the
gang (thank you Cora for sitting in the shade with me). Any time you
borrow a saddlebag to tote Dayquill and a box of Kleenex is just not a good
sign. Anyway, the little riding we did on Saturday lets me know that it is
a joy to ride and fits like a broken-in pair of wonderful handmade shoes.
I managed to get in the shortest of descents on a grassy Riv-style hill and
I was in awe of its stability. Like a mountain goat.

The paint has to be seen to be believed. JB added pearl to the paint
that you can't see until it's in brilliant sun. And then it flickers and
dazzles with the most subtle blues and yellows and whites...like you just
found a treasure on the beach.

Some details: The Select Flyer wasn't just a test saddle; it's the
saddle. Paul seatpost, thumbies, and brakes; SON hub, White Industries MI5
rear hub, brown big bens, phil BB, shimano xt derailer. Will add cedar
fenders and a nitto mini front rack.

And how wonderful to say to my fellow low PBH friends like Manny: Take
it for a ride! (Rich Lee, you're next in line!)

Once it's set up here in Minneapolis, there'll be more photos and ride
 reports.

Thank you everyone for your knowledge, skill, artistry, support and
input. And especially Grant, Mark, Mark, Rich, JB, and Keven.

Re: [RBW] Re: Beauty Shots of the Custom are up!

2014-03-26 Thread Chris in Redding, Ca.
Hey All,
Great bike. Great effort. How about we call that a prototype.

My favorite all-in-one-bike is my 85 stumpy sport. This is my second. The
first I bought new and it lasted about 23 years. Long chain stays, relaxed
angles, and carefully crafted cockpits make for great workhorse bikes.

If RBW made that bike and I was feeling flush I would buy it.

Smooth Tracks,
Chris

Hi, Squiddy! :-D

Seriously, this is a beautiful bike. You must be on cloud nine right now. I
hope you have many meaningful years together.

JB added pearl to the paint that
you can't see until it's in brilliant sun.

Hey Bunch,

Just finished reading and looking at Liesl's new beauty and frankly it was
difficult to tear my eyes from it! As always I enjoy Grants write up's and
my favorite image of the set is Liesl and her new Chica Warrior Stallion
together. Ride that beauty in good health. And it would be cool to have a
way forward machine to see these bikes 50 years from now. I hope mine give
good miles to someone in the future bike centric US of A.

[RBW] Re: Beauty Shots of the Custom are up!

2014-03-26 Thread Tom Virgil
Congradulatons Liesl,

This bicycle just plain avers competence as a bicycle. It is unique,
handsome, and artful. And every detail reveals thought and intent on the
part of you, the owner, and its builders. It is at once beautiful and at
the same time as purposeful as a honey badger.

I look forward to the effect of the cedar fenders.

May you have and hold this velocipede and ride ride ride though a long and
hearty, healthy life.

Thank you so much for your sharing the saga of the Chica Warrior
development and your ultimate reception. I hope to hear much about you and
your adventures on it.

~Tom

Gorgeous bike. It came out beautifully. I had my doubts when I looked at
the unpainted frame. But I should know not to doubt Grant, Mark and Joe.
 Great job guys!
