I wish I had a better picture for you, but this is a Midlands rack that
clamps on to the saddle rails and works great for supporting the Barley
upright and away from the post. I have two of them, both acquired for
$11.00 each on Ebay. I still see them around now and then. They certainly
aren't overbuilt and hardly Riv quality, but they get the job done.

I should note that there is plastic sheeting from a cat litter pail in the
Barley to hold its shape, and a small plastic P clamp on the bottom affixed
to the mount.

pedaling, so getting it away from my backside is a bit of a priority.

I was considering this setup. It is quite ugly, but seems like it would
 be effective:

Rivendell sells the R-14 rear rack, which seems like it would work fine
for the purpose, and looks pretty, but it costs more than twice as much.

 Any thoughts?

I do have some regular old racks just lying around too. That might be a
cheaper fix. Just have to dig through the boxes in the garage to find
 one...

[RBW] Re: Carradice Barley mounting options for saddle without loops?

2014-01-04 Thread Michael Hechmer
Jim, I have used the Carradice SQR system with a Barley bag for years. It
works great. It attaches to the seat post instead of the saddle rails so
is much more secure than the bagman. You can buy multiple attachments at
half the cost of the bagman. The SQR keeps the bag back away from the
thighs. It is completely invisible when in use and much less conspicuous
than an empty bagman. I have it set up on two bikes and have both a barley
and Long Flap for the rare occasions I need something bigger. It's easy to
swap around. I recommend.

I use one of these with my Barley: http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/r13.htm

Works well, and is unobtrusive. I think I've seen a similar item from other
manufacturers, but I can't recall where.

The nitto R-10 would be another option for a small bag support rack. A little
better looking than the Bagman 2 and less expensive (although less functional)
than the R-14.

2014-01-02 Thread Kellie Stapleton
Carradice sells loops for saddles without them. I used the SQR system from
Carradice and really liked it. There's also the Bagman by Carradice others
have mentioned. However you do need a minimum amount of seatpost showing to
use the Bagman.
