If can happen when you are not pedaling, how do you know it is your bottom bracket? If your are not pedaling, then the bottom bracket is not spinning, therefore no clunk. This is what I would do if this happened to me. Take the chain off and check the tightness of the cranks (see other

If it happens without pedaling, does that not (almost) rule out the BB? If you remove the chain from the front rings (resting it on the BB shell so it's out of the way), and feel the cranks as you rotate them backwards slowly and fast, is it smooth or rough? As one who is driven nuts by
