Just thinking of the squat Testors bottles makes me happy. Drug stores used
to carry a wide array of colors in the 70s, and I'd look at all the colors
before buying a Charleston Chew for my walk home from school. Back when
kids walked home from school. I may get an Atlantis color bottle as a
John, I’ll be most interested in hearing how the Paul Touring Cantis work for
you. I myself have thought of getting the Paul Neo Retros, Touring, or Linear
Pull Motolites in the past. I would definitely consider them on a new build.
Please post your observations when you set them.

John: I've put two separate brake pads on my CX-70s, the stock ones and
Kool-Stops. Both squealed a ton. I even had them adjusted at a shop once or
twice, and that never seemed to work. I've had a decent number of
John I'm curious about your squealing CX-70 brakes. I use them on my Sam
and have found them to be quiet, and the best functioning cantilevers I've
ever used. Could it be your brake pads, or toe in perhaps? Having said
this, I use Paul center pulls on another bike, and they are also fantastic.
Hey, Y'all:
Yes, indeed!
I KNOW because I worked for TESTORS for nearly a quarter-century and also
with GRANT over a period of months to get him dozens of paint samples and
many sets of paint chips. (He will remember those early morning FED EX
deliveries I'm quite sure.) In the early 2000s,
Chris, if it needs repainting, it will be panted to match it’s name, Shadowfax.
From Lord of the Rings: “By day his coat glistens like silver; and by night it
is like a shade, and he passes unseen.”

Are you having repainted in the same color scheme?

Lum, the Moon Unit can be adjusted with two hands easily (vs. the six hands
required with the rest). The vertical cable goes into a dimple at the bolt, the
body is treaded for the bolt, so no separate nut, and the bolt is allen, and no
second micro bolt that leaves you scratching your head
Let us know how you like them, John! Me Hunq is just fine. It’s in to swap the
dropouts to long horizontal dropouts for fixed riding. So, Mark Nobilette has
it now, is designing the dropouts, then likely to the painters for a fresh
coat. Hoping for spring. I didn’t think I’d miss it much with
What makes it better than other carriers?

Patrick! Jeffrey! I ordered a set of Paul Touring Cantis and Moon Unit hangers.
I will report back as soon as I have them set up. Thanks for the tip on the
Moon Units—I probably would’ve missed them otherwise.
Patrick: did I miss a post about your Hunq? I do hope it’s okay.

Oh (+) 1 on the Paul Moon Units ... it's one of those rare parts you'll
kick yourself for not having purchased *YEARS* ago after grousing over the
40 bucks ... as if.

I use nail polish - it comes in a myriad of colours. I've touched up paint
chips on frames with nail polish and it's still protecting the frame more
than a decade later.
Here's one manufacturer's range - just Google images for "nail polish
colors" to find many more:
Congrats, John! When I talked with Mark Nobilette he mentioned that checking
the alignment may cause paint to flake off, both because of where he had to
clamp it and if he needed to shift anything, preparing me for the likely need
of a full repaint. A few thoughts:

Thanks, all! Mark, I’ll be using your short term solution while the Waterford
touch-up is en route.
It’s such a relief to have the Atlantis back. Some time apart just reinforced
how much I love that bike, squealing lousy cx-70 cantis and all.

For the meantime, if that means not much time, you can put on some wax. Or
clear nail polish, but you'll want to steel wool that down a bit before
final touch up if it's glossy. Even if you match the color, the other issue
is depth--put some primer and or a few coats of the touch up so that it
For touch ups Testors #2135 model paint (supposedly the color of interior
of Soviet submarines) is a ery good match for the Atlantis green.
