Thanks, RU, for the tip on the Cyclemeter app. I downloaded and used
it for the first time yesterday -- I think I'm really going to like
it. For the recreational and rambling, ambling rides I mostly do, this
is just the ticket. Put it in my bag and check ride info during a
break or after the ride.
Generally, I like my Sigma Sport computer. It is a small square
pachkage with a very simple mount. As for the rear triangle... options
with it would include building up the diameter of the seat stay
(maybe?) of chainstay. Or get a Gino's mount, though you end up with a
pokey-outy thing.
Another
If you just want to record, you could a wireless computer and keep the
computer in your seat bag.
if you want wired because of the battery issue then just mount it
upside down so you can't see it :)

Find somebody to give you their old Avocet model 20 cyclometer. those
had one data field on the display at a time. Leave it on Trip
distance and never touch the mode button. check total distance in
your garage as needed when the 0.0 speed wont bother you.

I actually did this on a tour last year, although with duct-tape. I
found that while I wanted the odometer to track miles at the end of
the day in my log book,
I've contemplated this myself, but have not done anything about it
yet. I assume that if you're mounting it on the rear triangle, you
want to put the display unit in a seat bag. Seems like that would
work, as long as the magnet can be mounted close enough to the spokes
to pick up the signal as

$15 at Amazon. I'll probably buy several.
Can anyone say how durable they are? I used to like Avocets but they
had a life of under five years except for the 35 which lasted 10. My
Mity is about 8 and going strong.

After removing my computer I've been using the Cyclemeter app for just
this purpose. I can log my miles ridden but don't have to look at my
speed or the taunting pace arrow.

Had one on an old mount years ago - pre-Avocet. Must be a few NOS
around somewhere...

A friend got a Huret on e-Bay a year or so ago for something like $35
IIRC, so they are out there for a price. I did an unintentional
century one day when the little rubber drive band had stretched to the
point of slipping.
