Manny, please, call me Patrick. I'm just not the same without the trick.
Grin. We get race tape producing worms (mini caterpillars, really) who use
the winds at dusk and dawn to hitch a ride tree to tree and, unbeknownst to
them, across trail. Though if I were to raise my arms in triumph on the
oak caterpillars - we had them so bad about 8 years ago the UPS coming down
the street looked like the Aadams Family. Rain has been almost forgotten
here over the 4 year drought, though we've had monsoons also that may break
it. Light rain is rare here, but earlier in the year we had a
Maybe it's growing up with them and living in the mountains where being
down and out of lightenings likely path is easy, but I love the boomers.
The rumbling moving through my bones is amazingly relaxing.

Ah yes... Nothing motivates and makes you reach deep quite like approaching
thunder and lightning... My streak to the finish is usually accompanied by
a frantic Woob woob woob.. Lightning scares the dillies out of me...

Patrick, my commuting colleagues and I have a variation of your race that
we do fairly often. On stormy days we watch the storms coming in on weather
radar and time our departure for home based on the storm arrival. We almost
always procrastinate just a bit too long and end up with a sprint to
Great fun, Bob. I figured I wouldn't be alone in playing with storms that
way. Grin.

Nice Patrick
I've done it many a time here in O-Hyo .Ho hum such a beautiful
day at the start not a cloud in the sky, nothing on the radar. An
hour or so later as some clouds gently roll in . hark I hear
what ? Thunder of course ? Where am I ? In a
Love it! On the other hand I've also found myself overtaken... or surprised by
a storm and ended up taking cover under a bridge... Or getting wet. If say in
running about even on beating vs losing the race with storms this summer!

Fun topic. With me, whether I win or lose depends on whether I have fenders
installed. If I don't, I lose -- guaranteed. Pedaling furiously, I manage
to get far enough from home and into an area where there is no shelter, and
have to plod away wetly thereafter until I reach my destination.
Funny:
Pat,
Practical racing is what I do everyday!
When I ride into spiderwebs I sometimes pretend I'm apart of some invisible
race that I just won.
So instead of getting mad, I practice my winning pose as I cross that race
tape.
Good times always.
