Nice setup! Since you've lost weight on your 10x200 challenge, one of those
bags will be, for all intents and purposes, a freebie...

Ah, frame bag. I had thought you meant a seat bag. It all makes sense now. That
is a some serious hauling capacity.

[RBW] Re: Rosco Bubbe step through now configured for winter

2017-10-08 Thread Bill Lindsay

Since I had the spare minutes to enjoy another cup of coffee and listen to
the NFL pre-game show on the radio, I went ahead and threw on the rear rack
and mocked up a fully loaded cargo configuration on my Rosco Bubbe step
through. The bags are all empty except the Relevate frame bag, which
contains my solo tent.

Front panniers: Ostrich

Rear panniers: Carradice

Sackville grid gray bar tube

Sackville shop sack medium sapphire

Sackville Saddlesack Large olive
Relevate frame bag

The frame bag definitely makes the standover height much more like a
standard bike, but with just a tent inside and with my kind of wide Q
Mountain bike double crankset, there is no knee rub issue. That's what Jay
was asking about.

Jay asked for details about how I plan to set up a bikepacking bag on my Rosco
Bubbe Mixte. When I get the bike in the stand for the rear rack install,
perhaps I’ll take a photo of it completely maxed out in cargo capacity.

Bill

PS. The rumor is true that it does not snow anywhere but the highest peaks in
the San Francisco Bay Area. When I say “prepare for Winter” I’m referring to
months on the calendar. December through February means short days, lower
temperatures, larger temperature swings, and rain.

Exactly. Notice where he lives to understand his 'winter'! I lived in the
bay area for 30 years and winter was just rain, maybe fog, very very rarely
below freezing. One winter in Ann Arbor, and I bow to those who ride
through it. I had thirty-foot long wooden bridge over a pond with no side
rails as part of my bike commute, and all I could see was braking on it (or
black ice) and sliding right into the pond, so I ended up driving the mile
whenever it wasn't clear.

Bill, I’m interested in the orientation on the bikepacking bag. Will you run
the narrow end against the seat tube, with the bag flaring toward the head
tube? Just wondering if you anticipate any interference with your knees.

Bike looks amazing!

My brain is attempting to reconcile one side of the equation with the

Winter = remove knobbies.
