[RBW] Re: What are you reading (was reading chairs)?
in the last month . .. the financial lives of the poets - Jess Walter (one of the best young american writers going) the believers - zoe heller. fantastic. nine stories - salinger, about my 20th re-read at this point. a perfect day for bananafish is one the best short stories ever written in my opinion. the humbling - philip roth. not his most impressive work, but he's such a good writer that it doesn't really matter. interpreter of maladies - jhumpa lahiri, another re-reading because it's so damn good. essays by mark twain for when i need a laugh. selections from a confederacy of dunces for when i need a really good laugh. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Lovely! A wonderful translation. He speaks with a truly modern voice yet loses nothing. It's absolutely lyrical. This is my second reading in 10 years. I love this stuff. The Odyssey is next. On Feb 11, 6:45 pm, JoelMatthews joelmatth...@mac.com wrote: Lovely! A wonderful translation. Currently reading Dr. Faustus, by Christopher Marlowe. Finished Bicycle Diaries last week, by David Byrne. I recently heard about a novel based on the life of Cicero, which sounds interesting. [RBW] Re: What are you reading (was reading chairs)?
Recently finished The Rebbe's Army by Sue Fishkoff. All about the Chabad (super-orthodox Jewish movement) and its worldwide corps of young married couples who set up outposts to reach unaffiliated Jews. A fascinating read about the pull one man can have upon for thousands of people, even after his death; not without controversy but very well- written. Next up: The Art of Blessing the Day by Marge Piercy. Collected poems, great bedtime reading. I may mix this up with some occasional reading from a huge volume of e.e. cummings' poetry that my sweetie gave me for my birthday. About twice a year I go on a poetry tear for a few weeks and get it out of my system. (Last year it was Whitman.) Hopefully by the time I'm done another book of prose will become apparent. --Beth -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
