REI Outlet has been a good source for merino wool content socks, tights and
tops/underlayers.
Not much from Ibex but there are a few and a lot of items from SmartWool.
Usually sizes are constrained but available in XL and/or Small.
Cycling specific wool shorts and tops are rare.
I just
I have a stash off Ibex Duo wool/poly panel shorts that I cut the pads out
from. Find them on Ebay. I have a Kucharik pair bought new without a pad. Also
have icebreaker bibs with a pad. My favorites are Smartwool Rambition shorts
though, from which I've also cut the pads out. Just a little
I have stashed away 3 pairs of Ibex and Kucharik wool shorts for that ever
elusive >30 mile ride. Meanwhile, I'm happy in boxers and Rapha Randonee
shorts and, for that matter, in boxers and cut off khakis.
I gave up lycra shorts largely for reasons of comfort, not appearance -- I
hated the
While packing for a recent bike tour in Virginia, I threw in a pair of Ibex
wool shorts because I couldn't find another pair of lycra shorts. When I
finally got around to wearing them I was amazed at how comfortable they
were even in 85-90 degree weather. Far more comfortable for long days in
sprinted 7 mi in 91% RH this morning.
Stopped for an iced latte on the way back.

I've tried riding in woven, structured shirts, and dislike both aspects --
I find the woven cloth less comfortable than knit, and they bind when I
lean forward on shoulders, armpits, and neck. The exception are my Hawaiian
shirts, which I deliberately wear large, when they are not tucked in, but
Yeah, keep in mind my “jersey” is a plaid woven light cotton long sleeve work
shirt, ala chambray. Grin.

I'd never heard that; I'll have to be careful from now on, since rayon too
uses harmful chemicals -- tho' all my rayon shirts are from Goodwill, so I
suppose they're all environmental sunk cost, so to speak.
But apparently a Swiss company, Litrax, uses mechanical and natural enzymes
to break down
I wore bamboo for a while till I learned all the junk used in processing it
into a fabric. Cotton or wool now for me.

Tangential question: has anyone used bamboo fiber/wood fiber/natural fiber
jerseys for a while? How do they do as to comfort and longevity?
Patrick Moore, who found a moth hole in the Sugoi jersey he wore Tuesday
evening.

+1 on the new RUSA light weight jersey. My first ride in it was a hot, humid

Agree on the light weight recommendation! Since I don’t need pockets in my
riding clothes (I’ve got bags for that stuff), I’ve switched entirely to
light weight ibex/icebreaker wool T’s and polos. MUCH better in warm temps
than those super thick Swobo jerseys I’ve been riding in for the last 20
Recently got the new RUSA summer weight wool jersey (there is a heavier version
too). Excellent in hot and humid weather. No nipple abrasion when wet, and no
freezing when I go inside an air conditioned store or food stop on a long ride.
Ebay is also a source for out of production but good
doesn't just have to be hot and dry - in hot and humid it works better than
synthetics and much better than cotton.
You can also buy some seriously thin and lightweight merino tees (150 wt)
if you shop around.
