VERY NICE!!
I would love to see one of these framed with some steel tubing, maybe
lugged at the corners... perhaps each tube a different color, maybe with a
few decals from say, a Hilsen... A Bomba... Atlantis or maybe a

I put mine in an Ikea frame, $20. The mat is not quite the right size, so I
might have that part redone. But the frame is of decent quality at a very
reasonable price.

My typo, meant to say, decided Not to use a mat. Sorry.

According to the web site copy of the independent outfit Seth got his from,
a lot of the chains expect you'll be using a 50% off coupon. $275 for a
frame that large, assuming it has UV glass doesn't sound too out of line
(in my admittedly very limited experience).

I think anything related to "art" gets a mark-up similar to what happens when
you put the word "marine" or "aviation" in front of a piece of hardware.
Or, perhaps, people think the mark up on anything called "frame" is the same as
that on eyeglass frames, which is around 1000%.

Since the subject is for the moment on-topic, what are anyone's secrets for
reasonably cost-effective framing? Last weekend I took a photo of a
project I recently completed to Aaron Brothers, the stripmall chain framing
place. Simple, rectangular frame profile, 3" white mat, 20x30 image. The
Yes. I've since been trying to decide whether I try finding a frame shop
locally to do the same or give those guys a call and see what shipping
would run.

Ah, well my speciality is in ceramics but I have matted posters before
(dated a girl who worked at a framing store back in the day) so I think I
will give it a shot one of these weekends and report back.

I think it measures out a bit narrow; was part of the reason for using

I know this has been mentioned before but does anyone know if there is a
standard frame size I could get to do it myself? I was a Fine Arts minor in
college so I can get pretty crafty when I want to so was gonna see what I
whip up. Thanks all.

That was the justification going on in my head: I bought a poster for
$20, then spent four times that on a frame, UV-glass, acid-free paper,
etc., just to be sure that 20, 30 years from now (right when my Rivs are
getting broken in), I can still be enjoying the poster, instead of it being
fad
No, I get that. And I completely understand the economics for why frames
cost so much more than prints. However, there's a part of me that can't get
over that whenever I see a nice print I'd like, that the cost of the print
is going to be but a small down payment -- internal voice: "Wow, nice

Yes, very, very nice. I am thoroughly inspired.

costs considerably more than the art! A frame shop here in Portland has as
their catch-phrase, "Re-frame your art." I've always thought it should be

That looks great Seth! Guess I'll have to un-push-pin mine and do something
more respectable now.

I'm not seeing a matte ...
Nice frame--I like the craftsman-style dowels at the corners. Goes well with
the print.

Steve,
Thanks! I didn't decide on the mat. I took it to the frame shop that
framed both of the Hiawatha posters I have and told them I wanted it
framed.
Seth that's very nice. I see that you decided to to use a mat. Looks
great! Steve
