Yes, very, very nice. I am thoroughly inspired. Though, this hits on something that always bothers me about framing -- it costs considerably more than the art! No, I get that. And I completely understand the economics for why frames cost so much more than prints. However, there's a part of me that can't get over that whenever I see a nice print I'd like, that the cost of the print is going to be but a small down payment -- internal voice: Wow, nice print. Since the subject is for the moment on-topic, what are anyone's secrets for reasonably cost-effective framing? Last weekend I took a photo of a project I recently completed to Aaron Brothers, the stripmall chain framing place. Simple, rectangular frame profile, 3 white mat, 20x30 image. The clerk looked me in the eye, and without giggling, said that'll be $550, how would you like to pay? I explained to her that I was stunned by that price, and that I would make other arrangements. [RBW] Re: rivendell poster framed
I think anything related to art gets a mark-up similar to what happens when you put the word marine or aviation in front of a piece of hardware. Or, perhaps, people think the mark up on anything called frame is the same as that on eyeglass frames, which is around 1000%. To be fair, back in the day an ornate, hand carved and leafed frame was a work of art its own right. I don't think a piece of aluminum extrusion chop-sawed to length and assembled by a $8/ hr kid is quite the same. My motto: You can always DIY. If you end up doing a great job, you saved money. If you do a lousy job, you'll now know what you pay for! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. According to the web site copy of the independent outfit Seth got his from, a lot of the chains expect you'll be using a 50% off coupon. $275 for a frame that large, assuming it has UV glass doesn't sound too out of line (in my admittedly very limited experience). -Allan On Friday, July 20, 2012 3:11:57 PM UTC-7, pb wrote: Since the subject is for the moment on-topic, what are anyone's secrets for reasonably cost-effective framing?
