ps - I also vote don't push SA saddle all the way back - several of us have
bent their rails.

2017-06-27 Thread Ron Mc
The greatest setback on any seatpost made is the Nitto S84 lugged steel,
which Rivendell sells - 40mm.

Possibly can get a slightly better buy from Alex's Cycle in Japan, but
haven't done XE stuff lately.

2017-06-27 Thread Garth
I tried the VO post once but returned it. The clamp seems oddly short/small to
me and I don't think that's a good thing long term. Plus, the setback is 30mm,
that's not alot more than a typical 25mm. If you are darn sure you only need
5mm then go for it or the Dia-Compe Gran Compe one that has the same setback
but a better clamp. Otherwise get the S84 as it has either 37 or 45mm of
setback, different sites list it differently. I have an S84 and it oozes
quality, from the looks to the feel adjusting it with the the bolts.

Velo Boreange?!
As Garth said, nitto S-84 seatpost is the way to go, shimmed. Not only does it
have mega setback, but it'll add a lug to your lug hungry Clem. My Clem loves
it's classy 84, and it's feathery steel! Might be cheap from Alex Cycles, but
better bought from your guy in Walnut Creek.

+1 on the VO for lots of setback. It's pricey, but oh so shiny.

Velo Orange makes are large setback post with 30.2mm of setback:
http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/components/seatposts/vo-grand-cru-seat-post-long-setback-1668.html

It's a 27.2 diameter so you'd still need the shim.

[RBW] Re: seatpost/set back help

2017-06-26 Thread Hugh Smitham
Hi Davey,

I needed a lot of setback so I bought a setback post with 26mm setback. At
the same time I purchased a different saddle because my sit bones didn't
like the c17. I purchased a Ergon saddle and noticed it had 14mm longer
rails. They make a ton of saddles too many IMO but you might consider one
of them. How much setback are you looking for?

Not trying to highjack the post but I hadn't realized the Clem seat tube
inside diameter was so much larger? Anyone know why Grant & company went
that design route? Did they go with oversized tubing for a strengthening
purpose?

[RBW] Re: seatpost/set back help

2017-06-26 Thread Garth
If you really like that particular saddle and/or style, I'd try the shim
and a Nitto s-84 seatpost , although it will look kinda odd as it the shim
has a lip on it so it won't be flush since Riv seat clusters are curled up
to a point. If you're handy with a file or dremel of you could file off the
part of the lip that interferes with the curl-up.

I myself would rather go the shim/sp route so you can use any saddle
you want.

[RBW] Re: seatpost/set back help

2017-06-26 Thread Kai Vierstra
Exactly. A seat post shim from problem solvers solves the problem. I took a
file to mine to follow the curve, but I didn't need to. I researched my
options in a seatpost and none had any setback like I wanted, and having a
selection of 27.2's at my disposal this seemed the best option. Time has
told me it doesn't have any slipping problems, the only downside I can see
is another seam that fills in with crud, but I rather like that crud.

Have you considered getting a 29.8 -> 27.2 seat post shim? Problem Solvers
and Cane Creek both have that size, and there's a large selection of set
back seat posts with a 27.2 diameter. I use a Cane Creek shim on a 31.6 ->
27.2 conversion, and have had no issues with slippage even at my svelte
215 pounds.

Been there and done that on a 26.8. Couldn't find anything to use and I
use a Brooks saddle too. The Anatomicas do have longer rails but the
saddles don't cut it for me. That said, if you are interested in buying
one, contact me offline as I have several I could sell.
