Re: [RBW] bars for a simpleone?
I'm built similarly and love drop bars and can't get comfortable on anything else (I've tried them all, too). I find drops particularly useful with ss and fixed gears because these require, or can require, a wider range of power outputs, and different hand/arm/body positions favor different power outputs: as you notice when you get forward and low. What has your problem with drops been? I've found that saddle position is one of the keys to comfortable arms, neck and shoulders. Just curious what's the frame size of your Rom and Hillborne? I'm the same height and PBH as you. RE: [RBW] bars for a simpleone?
I'm 6 feet (or a little less), 86 PBH (or a little more), thus not hugely different sizing than Bruce. I have 46cm Noodles on my Quickbeam, and I love them -- 3 totally distinct hand positions (and several variants thereof) means excellent hand/wrist comfort, and although I'm no great climber, the bike with these bars makes me better (which is good for a single speed). Re: [RBW] bars for a simpleone?
I've got a canit-Rom in 59 and a Sam Hillborne in 56, and used to own a 52 Bombadil. The Rom and Bomba fit well at those sizes (Rom w. mustache bars, Bomba with bullmoose) and the Sam feels a bit too big (with bullmoose). Still trying to figure out how to make the Sam not feel like an oversized tank... don't think it's the bars on that one - probably the heavyish tires/wheels and I probably should have gone a size down, even though I have some standover clearance with the 56. I've also got pretty short arms/legs for my torso - that's probably why i haven't loved drops - e.g. to use them I'm stretched out over the bike too much. Thanks for all the advice and feedback from everyone - I think I'm leaning towards the Nitto Rando bar for the SimpleOne - e.g. splayed-out drops with a tighter bend so the drops are closer. Maybe with a dirt-drop stem... thanks, andrew On May 5, 2011, at 3:35 AM, Bruce Baker wrote: Just curious what's the frame size of your Rom and Hillborne? I'm the same height and PBH as you. It won't matter what you choose. You will want something else soon after you tape and shellac them. If not - you haven't subscribed to this list long enough... Re: [RBW] bars for a simpleone?
I struggle to get comfortable on normal or slightly flared drop bars, but I'm pretty happy with the On One Midge. It's almost a mix between a mustache bar and a normal drop bar. Re: [RBW] bars for a simpleone?
m-bars on my QB. Love 'em. I am mostly an urban commuter and the m-bars are simply great in traffic. I also do longer rides with them and have never been uncomfortable. Try riding your Rom around in just one gear for a day or two and see what you think. Aloha!
