Lum, in essence you are taling boiled wool socks with sandals, which you can
see in winter action here. Depending on what winter means to you, you’ll be
fine, or you’ll wish for more wind blocking (I get 30-50 mph winds in winter,
and even a little getting through is cold at various temps.). I

Hello,
Final two items for sale.
Rivendell Quickbeam wheelset. I bought these from a list member and never used
them. These are the wheels that came on the first batch of Quickbeams. They

Yep, Wasn’t sure how much wider you’re going for and not familiar with the GB
rims but the aero 20mm isn’t far off from the CR18 22mm but definitely closer
to the narrower VO PBP 19mm.
I’ve had success fitting the same sets of tires (from 28s up to actual 35s) on
a set of CR18s and also 19mm

Looks like a blast!
Following your mission for a formidable snow bike has encouraged me to
spend some time on my Pugsley again. Today I stripped the derailleurs and
gears off and am about to put on a fresh shiny single speed chainring (I
have a collection of other cogs and things already).
Not quite sure what you mean by "minimalist dress and casual", but I'll
give it a shot. All but 1 bike have SPDs -- M540, M540, 7410 -- and only
the Hon Solo has clips 'n' straps. For the SPDs, I have a pair of beige

Since some of you are minimalists, I was wondering about what you wear for
biking, dress, and casual.
Do minimalist shoes wear well? Last long?

I purchased some Evolv Cruzers earlier in the year on a tip from Nam &
Benedict. Apparently they are “approach” shoes. I chose to get the non-laced
version to remove the chances of them hooking my 3x.
They are incredibly light and have tons of grip. I have trouble not wearing
them everywhere.
I wear Soft Star Hawthorne to work for Business Casual. They are made in the
USA. They are higher end on price, but very well made and can be resolved. Soft
Star also makes running shoes. I do not have to wear a suit to work so don't
have to worry about dress shoes.
Hey lum,
Just got a pair of these for myself and fiance.
We both love it. I've ridden with platform pedals and they are pretty comfy.
Sole feels solid.
They are pretty snug with thick socks but break in over time.
I personally wear them for casual and commuting on flat pedals. Worn then down

Lum, you may want to search recent posts as I think this was covered recently.
I go barefoot for everything, only wearing footwear when conditions require. I
have settled on Xero shoes, as they are wide enough for my forefoot (a rarity)
and their soles grip far better than Lems.

But not to worry. While merino wool is from merino sheep, boiled wool is
not from boiled sheep.
However, boiled wool does come from sheep.

I’ve owned a pair of Allbirds for about a year. While they are easily the most
comfortable sneakers I’ve ever owned, I don’t enjoy riding in them. The sole is
a bit too squishy, and I sorta feel like I’m pedaling in sand. They also
attract dirt and road grime, but you can easily wash them.

Boiled wool is wool that is, well, boiled. Boiled and agitated, it both shrinks
and felts. Combined with the natural lanolins in the wool (which can be added
as well), it is highly wind resistant, hearty, and warm.
Merino wool is a soft wool from merino sheep.

The Steilacooms sound wonderful, and if they were 12 mm wider I'd try them,
but I fear they'd do non-optimally (sheesh, what jargon) in 2" silty sand.
(I find 50 mm to be a sweet spot for our sandy soil.)

I agree with Deacon and would worry the sole of the Allbird would be destroyed.
