Re: [RBW] Clems for Kids

2020-09-06 Thread Leah Peterson
Thanks, Mark! I see the resemblance between those bikes.

Meanwhile, older son wants his old Boscos moved over from his grilver bike to
his big blue bike. I went on Riv’s website to order new (non-moosey) Boscos and
found these “Baby Boscos.”
https://www.rivbike.com/collections/handlebars/products/etww326etkah332kfak

I’m thinking these will be perfect for my littler son on the grilver Clem. Has
anyone else used these? I didn’t even know they existed until now. I’d go out
with the tape measure and try to imagine how they will look but we’re in Utah
for the weekend.

I ordered them, and now I just need to choose a stem (don’t know what size to
order - maybe 70 mm reach???). I’ll post pics of the Baby Boscos when I get
them on the bike.

More on that later; I’m going white water rafting now!

Love it! Nail polished or painted lug work, with the "it's OK to use nail
polish" of the group would allow his artistic side to come out on his bike.

The honey accents look good on both the grilver and the blue.

I hope E comes to realize how COOL that blue is. I think it's my favorite
Clem color, and that Select almost-honey-now saddle looks great on it.

Ben, I truly was grateful that that option was no longer available, though
reading it now I see how it could sound miffed or bummed. I am neither, and
even if the case had been that I did decide to buy it and it was gone, I am

wrote about it on the internets!

I've been a bit hectic, but I will do a follow-up post with my current

Well there you go, made my decision for me. I'm sure your daughter will
love her Clementine. When she's done gnarring, she can go shopping with it.
And one day possibly pass it to her daughter.

I think I will stop projecting ahead and wait till my son's legs grow a
bit longer before I indulge in any more bike shopping on his behalf. Funny
story-- six and change years ago, two nurses were looking at a sonogram of
my son and Ioverheard a snippet of their conversation. "What was that?" I
said. "Oh, we were just commenting that he has unusually long femur bones."
My first proud papa moment!

I know some folks have bought Clems for their kids. Just wondering what

Re: [RBW] Clems for Kids

2016-02-18 Thread Edwin W
Erl,

Forget the bike, is that a Jets fan riding it???

I got a Clem for my oldest son. He is almost 10 and just barely fits on the
the small one.
Here are some pics.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/90785999@N06/albums/72157661094042625

There aren't many great, practical bikes for this size kid out there, save
for Islabikes, which seem great. I keep undershooting (with cheap finds on
CL) or overshooting (with the CLEM) and haven't got an Islabike yet. Now I
have kids bikes with 26, 24, 20, 16, and 12 inch wheels, so I think I am
kind of set.

My main justification is that three kids will ride this Clem on their way
from 24" bikes to a bigger bike, plus my wife can ride it even if it is a
bit small, and so can other guests. I bet my mom will ride it when she is
down here in a few weeks.

Does that help? I can't imagine how it would. What was the original
question?

Gang greening it,

Edwin

The PSA about the 45cm Clem got me thinking. I am tempted to buy it for
my little guy, but a Clementine would make more sense, since the high bar

67cm PBH. Then I noticed that Riv is selling a blemished black 45cm
Clementine. The other cool thing is it would be an exact match to my black
52cm. (The CL bike is $200 less, though.)

It would be a big stretch for me financially, but if I could put it
into use within 2 years (and maybe lend it to a shorter friend meanwhile)
it might make sense, especially since I have most if not all parts lying
 around.

I know some folks have bought Clems for their kids. Just wondering what
the youngest age/size is among the junior Clemmers? My guy is 6 years old,
in the 97th percent for height at 50", will measure his PBH tonight. He
currently rides a 20" Hotrocks. Getting him on a great-riding bike like
 the
Clem at an early age would be wonderful. But realistically it could be
another 4-5 years I suppose? Also curious if any of the Roscoes, which was
originally concocted to designate a children's model, might be made in
 extra wee sizes.

 Any thoughts appreciated.

Re: [RBW] Clems for Kids

2016-02-18 Thread WETH
Mark,
When my youngest son was almost 10 years old and about 55" inches tall (he
is less than 50th percentile for height), I put him on an old mountain bike
frame-44cm- that was his mother's bike. It, however, is a 700c wheel
frame. I spray painted it his favorite colors, put some sweptback bars
(soma sparrow I think) on it, and he loves it. Photos are
here: https://flic.kr/s/aHsjXAzZVW and here https://flic.kr/p/o47xfw and
here https://flic.kr/p/o48fZW

He had a bit of adjustment to handling a bigger bike and bigger wheels, but
he learned quickly. As he had become frustrated trying to keep up with the
family on his 20" wheel bike, he was excited with the upgrade.

Best wishes and family riding is a blast!
Erl

2016-02-18 Thread masmojo
I bought a small Clementine that I expect will ultimately be my daughters,
she's a few years off from being able to ride it but it's ideal for my son now
& if my wife decides she would like to ride, she would fit it perfectly. I
haven't worried too much about a bike for my son(he has his little Stingray),
because he can ride the Clementine now, will ultimately be about my height and
should then be able to ride anything in my bike quiver! LOL
