Re: [RBW] WTB 63cm Roadeo/Riv Road Frameset
If it is anything like mine, you will love it. Faster than any rivbike I ever rode. I don’t even need to downshift on some hills anymore. Just cruises over them. Some hills. Of course those 7+%-ers are still tough! But this bikes requires less effort to pedal along than all my other rivs. Less effort=less trashed after long rides=feel good the next day=more riding and less recovery days off a bike. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] WTB 63cm Roadeo/Riv Road Frameset
I just wanted to update this post with the good news that I've found myself a Roadeo. A list member offered his up as it wasn't seeing a lot of use. It's in immaculate condition, is in the color or my dreams(Ram orange,) and was a very fair price. I'm extremely grateful and am looking forward to building it up slowly over the winter. I'll likely start a new thread with questions and solicitations of advice/component recommendations. Thank you everyone! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] WTB 63cm Roadeo/Riv Road Frameset
Thanks, ttoshi! I just bought a Roadeo from a lister and glad to hear about the ride qualities and your experience with position on the bars. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] WTB 63cm Roadeo/Riv Road Frameset
Such a great, detailed explanation! Thanks, Toshi! Sounds like the Roadeo is exactly what I’m looking for. Now if only I can find a frameset in my size Best, David -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] WTB 63cm Roadeo/Riv Road Frameset
The Roadeo is lighter and faster steering than the Ram, and that is a noticable difference to me. What may not be as appreciated is that the design of the Roadeo is different from the Ram in that the top tube is shorter (at least in my 53/54cm size, and I think for other sizes too). This means, all other things equal, the bars are closer to you, which means to obtain that same comfort zone, you drop lower--i.e. you ride in your drops more.My Roadeo has the most comfortable drops of any bike I own, and it is more comfortable than the bar tops or hoods. This mindset takes into account the more aggressive position and "faster" riding that I would want to do on the Roadeo compared with the Ram. Some people want to retain the same exact cockpit on every bike they own, but that doesn't really take into account the type of riding you are doing. Why be in an aggressive aerodynamic position on a casual ride on the bike path with your kids? Having multiple bikes allows you to both tweak the bike (in terms of racks/luggage weight), as well as the rider position to match/reflect the bike characteristics. For me the Roadeo "character" is more than just the weight or tubing. Best, Toshi -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] WTB 63cm Roadeo/Riv Road Frameset
Tim, Thanks so much for sharing your impressions of each! You’ve helped me confirm that the Roadeo is the bike for me even though I prefer the Road’s aesthetics. I’m lucky enough to own a Ram and while it just my be my favorite ride, I’m looking for something a little different with my next bike. Essentially lighter, more stripped down, and “faster.” Thanks for helping me make up my mind. Re: [RBW] WTB 63cm Roadeo/Riv Road Frameset
David- I've owned both a 59 Roadeo and 59 Riv Road Standard, so allow me to share my impressions. The Roadeo has larger tire clearance; it was designed around standard/medium reach brakes, not the short-reach brakes of the Riv Road. The Roadeo is the faster/lighter of the two; its tubeset is thinner. Remember that in the 59 and larger sizes, though, you get more standard tubing (IIRC .8/.5/.8), not the thin .65/.45/.65 of the smaller sizes. The Roadeo doesn't "plane", but it has a great ride. The Roadeo fork is lighter and has a even better feel than the wonderful 531 fork on the Road Standard. I think the Riv Road has a ride that is similar to a Rambouillet/Romulus (based on others' descriptions) than the sporty ride of the Roadeo. Ergo, if you're interested in a Riv Road, you should also consider the Ram/Rom/Redwood (65 cm and up). However, nothing beats the gorgeous Newvex/Riv lugs, cloisonne head badge, and "Rivendell" downtube script of the Riv Road Standard. Personally, I don't have much need for a fancy, sporty, pavement-only road bike, so I moved my Roadeo on to another list-member. I kept the Riv Road Standard, but I've adapted it "a la randonneur" with 650b wheels, fenders, and now a low-trail fork.
