I would think that doing this would be asking for un-balanced batteries in the string (un-equal battery voltage) But I guess I can't argue with success ? Put the positive battery in the middle then so it won't be on the end ? :) :-) boB On 10/1/2015 2:07 PM, Starlight Solar Power Sys

First time I've heard of something like this since starting in the off-grid business in 1994. Closest I've done to 'rotating' batteries is switching which corners of a series/parallel bank are the main DC connectors. I have noticed, on some occasions, the end cells may use a bit more water. As for

Larry, I don't know the answers to these questions, as I haven't yet been to the site. This is a new customer, referred to me by another company that doesn't do off grid - at least, not off grid that works. When he told me how they were set up on the phone, my gut res

Since multiple batteries failed ("the one that always fails"), did he buy one new battery each time and tie it to the old failing one? Or, did he start with a new bank and create the parallel at that time? Since he’s an “old timer” he may be mixing different age batteries in the bank. I see this

Allan, The battery "pair" is operating in parallel so the current flowing through that string will be divided between the two. This means that each battery in the parallel set is only being discharged half of what the others in the string are. So, of course, those batteries will be lasting long

Jerry, The five batteries aren't in series. I thought I made that clear, but maybe not. Two are in parallel at 6V at the positive end, and then that pair are in series with the remaining three. Allan

I have18 on a 48 volt outback system just set the CC and chargrr up a little. My concern about 5 on a 24 volt is how deep the batteries really get charged, 7.5 v a battery is 37.5 and thats above the inverter operating range same issue with nickle iron. There may not be good spec gravity for long

Wrenches, especially the grizzled ones, I was referred to a couple for off grid service about 75 miles from here. They have an older homeowner-built 24V system (that I haven't seen yet) and have lived with it for decades. They have ten L16s in two parallel strings. I ques
