Bill, This is the new reality, for better or worse. Most gennies are primarily built for residential backup and use the grid AC to maintain readiness. In a new installation, running one more conductor to carry system AC for the generator, often no larger than 14awg, with the output and signal

(Accidentally hit send before finished) A few years ago we addressed this on a Kohler 11RES installation. We put a 20w module and controller on the starting battery for the control load. The other loads - carb heater and something else I don't recall - ran off the inverter's AC, but with a

[RE-wrenches] Trina Module Annual Degradation

I have recently been in discussion with a company that builds a large number of medium-sized PV ground mount system (30 kW to over 100 kW). They claim that they have been seeing something on the order of 0.7% annual degradation in the output of their systems due to intrinsic degradation in the PV

You know, I think I mis-spoke about not offering design support. We do offer design support, and it is called the SMA Off-Grid Configurator (much like the Sunny Design Tool). There is both a free and a paid version. Found here:

I just asked the same question to Brad @AEE, they have a set hooked up for test but test has not started yet. From an environmental point of view they are safer than anything on the market. I attempted to contact Aquion, I have emailed called, I left several messages and never heard back.

Aloha All, We have been integrating Aquion Energy batteries into select Off Grid homes for just over a year now, with great success. The key is designing them for what they are, and not as if they were a lead acid battery. The biggest added design criteria is taking into consideration their power

Hi: Having both connected will work the way you want, only if you make sure the solar charger charging voltage is higher than the Kohler charger voltage. When the solar charging source has higher voltage it will trump the lower Kohler charging voltage an do the charging when the sun is out.

It's too bad that when a module goes to a REAL high degradation, like, 100% down to nothing before that 25 year warranty is up, that it is NOT considered degradation and is not covered under warranty. P.S. This has nothing to do with Trina or any PV company in particular. boB On 7/16/2015
