[RE-wrenches] Magnum

2018-07-10 Thread RM You
Anybody know what’s up with Magnum Energy/ Sensata? I’ve been trying to get on
their website both through direct magnumenergy.com links and through Sensata
and there is no Magnum Energy website any more. Did I miss something here…?
Hope not. The data site is still up but all the other links just show a 404
error.

I have one question also. Do you have the Nicad data to enter into a
typical shunt based monitor to calibrate it? Without loading the 5 or 6
parameters a quality battery monitor needs, it really is not going to be
that accurate. It is so nice to have the data from a BMS and no shunt
required. Very accurate Soc:)

Hey Gary,

Ohio Fire Code does cover this. It’s a matter of if the Fire marshal in you
project area wants to waive or alter the requirements.

Specifically 605.11.1.2 is for residential buildings. There is some conflict in
terms of Hip roofs in the code there. 605.11.1.2.2 states a single 3ft path on
one edge or another for a hip roof, but 605.11.1.2.4 states that an 18 space is

vary between wanting a 3' lane at the bottom and sides to allowing the array

[RE-wrenches] UL/CSA listed battery monitor?

2018-07-10 Thread Hilton Dier
Thanks for all the responses. The people on this list are gold standard. I’ll
look into the various monitors.

The batteries are SAFT (now Alcatel) STM-140 flooded NiCads. I don’t know where
these people got them, but they were surplus of some sort. They have tested
them and culled a few bad ones.

I’m thinking they may have to rely on the mercy and understanding of the
Canadian coast guard equivalent of an AHJ. If there are no listed monitors
there should be an exemption. Ignorance of SOC is worse for safety than a
non-listed battery monitor. But that would be logical, so...

Re: [RE-wrenches] UL/CSA listed battery monitor?

2018-07-10 Thread b...@midnitesolar.com

Just to clarify, MidNite has two (2) battery monitors  Sort of...

The  MNBCM that Tom referred to is a shunt-less voltage monitor that
lets you know when
the battery has not received an Absorb charge cycle for 1 week and 2
weeks.  It also has
somewhat of a voltage meter.  It is purely based on battery voltage and
looks for the rise
in voltage for an accumulated of around 2 hours or so...  It has a
semi-circle of LEDs on it.

Then the Whizbang Junior is a 500A @ 50 mV shunt tack-on circuit board
that connects to
the MidNite Classic or Kid charge controllers that calculates State Of
Charge based on

Amp-Hours in and out of the bank.

Thanks,
boB

*Subject:* [RE-wrenches] UL/CSA listed battery monitor?

I have a client who needs a monitoring system for a 48V nominal
NiCad battery bank on a boat. It's 4 parallel strings of 6V
batteries. (Not ideal, I know) It's a passenger boat in Canada so
all electrical devices need to be UL/CSA listed. None of the
Bogart Engineering monitors are listed.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!
