The rubber button pad is available as a replacement part. The carbon contacts
degrade over time and cleaning does not always restore functionality. Same

Wrenches,

I have a customer with a 2005-era Outback VFX3648-based off grid residential
system. Her original Mate had lost response on several of the six buttons. I
told her that the Mate is no longer made, and a Mate3 is larger (won't fit her
space), expensive and overkill for her needs. I offered to attempt to repair
hers, as it seemed to me that it would be a simple task. I removed the cover
and the silicon button molding, and used a Q-tip with a bit of electronic
cleaner and lubricant from Radio Shack to clean the contacts. When I put it
back together none of the buttons made active contact.

- Any idea what I might have done wrong to cause further failure? I'm wondering
if the cleaner included an oil that hindered conductivity, rather than enabled
it, and whether trying again with denatured alcohol (or something more potent
still?) might resolve the problem.

- Any suggestions about how to correct the (fairly common) problem of the
buttons not making contact after years of service?

- Anyone repairing older Mates that you might pass on?

- Any way to buy a new or refurbished Mate?

Thank you for any help here.,

Is “25 Kw per hour” a real value? For us old school people there is kW and they
is kWh (kilowatt hours). I’m guessing that it is 25 kWh per average day, or,

Re: [RE-wrenches] Large off-grid inverter/storage

2019-09-05 Thread Dave Angelini Offgrid Solar

I often find that numbers like 25KW per hour are just overblown and the
rest of the Offgrid load power data is too high.

Offgrid is all about the
state of the art in not needing high power levels by using the best
equipment available for the loads.

One can't simply take a power bill
from a utility and try to duplicate it offgrid. The loads have to be
reduced drastically.

Maybe this is not the case here and if so I
digress. Good Luck

You have to be in manual mode and that is not very easy and we did not
want to defeat the purpose of automation. We have done the manual ones
and they do work very well.  People like to move the modules if it is
easy.  And, these are really easy.  I even did it by just using my
fingers.  (oyster farm work helps with that)

Thanks Chris for the follow up. These were HZLA'a right? Kyle and his Dad
Jeff are great for Wattsun Support! These units have the manual track mode
also, right?

Re: [RE-wrenches] connector mismatch

Missing the point, yes they are compatible but as we have seen in the real
world there are issues. This can give module and micro inverter
manufacturers an out regarding failures and responsibility

[RE-wrenches] Residential tracker that has horizontal axis in east-west orientation? Problem appears solved

2019-09-05 Thread Christopher Warfel

I wanted to follow up on the issue I had previously posted.

We installed two ArrayTech trackers at different sites in the
unconventional east-west orientation. One worked well and one operated
so that it was not facing south very often.  Kyle was able to guide me
through some troubleshooting and it appears the problem is fixed.

The tracker that worked properly had the sensor on the west end of the
array and was pointed east.  The tracker not working as expected had the
sensor on the east end of the array and was pointed west.  We swapped
the east/west sensor wires in the controller, and reduced the ghost
tracking setting.  This caused the tracker to work properly.
