Frank had his procedure today and they let him come home. He is doing very
well.

The filter was placed in the groin area, so that hopefully, the filter will
stop blood clots in both legs.

It is nice to have him with me. I missed him so much.

Thanks to all of you for your concern and prayers.

[RecipesAndMore] Maple Syrup Taste Test

2009-01-24 Thread Jan

Maple and Pancake Syrup
Published January 1, 2009. From Cook's Illustrated.

Does it pay to buy the priciest syrup in the aisle-and does it even need
to be real maple?

products tested (listed alphabetically)
Aunt Jemima Original Syrup
Camp Maple Syrup
Highland Sugarworks
Hungry Jack Original Syrup
Kellogg's Eggo Original Syrup
Log Cabin Pancake Syrup

Spring Tree Pure Maple Syrup

The syrup area of the supermarket is full of evocative names. You can
breakfast with motherly Mrs. Butterworth or manly Hungry Jack or escape
into nature with Maple Grove Farms, Spring Tree, or Log Cabin. Sold side
by side, genuine maple syrup and so-called pancake syrup (made with
high-fructose corn syrup) can range from more than $1 per ounce for the
real deal to a mere 14 cents per ounce for an imitation. But, price and
product names aside, which tastes best? To find out, we pitted four
top-selling national brands of maple syrup against five popular pancake
syrups, hoping to find the best one for pouring over pancakes or using
in recipes. For good measure, we also threw in the winning mail-order
maple syrup from a previous tasting.

Americans love syrup, spending more than $450 million a year on it in
supermarkets alone, with pancake syrup vastly outselling real maple
syrup. While the two types look alike, and both taste sweet, the
similarity ends there. Maple syrup is simply tree sap that has been
boiled to reduce its water content and concentrate its sugar. As the sap
boils down, it caramelizes and develops a characteristic maple flavor
and golden brown color. Pancake syrup, on the other hand, is a
manufactured mix of high-fructose corn syrup and other ingredients
engineered to taste like maple.

These maple wannabes have their work cut out for them, as it's not easy
to replicate the taste of genuine maple syrup. Its flavors vary
enormously-some syrups are rich and complex, with hints of honey, wood,
coffee, smoke, caramel, chocolate, and even rum-others are light,
bright, and remarkably clean-tasting for something so sweet. Indeed,
scientists have identified nearly 300 flavor compounds in maple syrup
(though not in every one); these are produced as the various amino
acids, phenolic compounds, minerals, salts, and sugars contained in sap
interact during boiling.

Still Tapped by Hand
Maple syrup costs much more than pancake syrup for some very good
reasons: Its production is labor-intensive, with a short season and
limited supply. Sap only runs for about a month at the end of winter,
when freezing nights and warmer days turn starch stored in the tree
roots into sugar and start it circulating through the tree to fuel
spring growth. Workers set taps by hand and move them each year so that
the trees can heal. We've all seen pictures of buckets on trees and
horse-drawn wagons carrying sap to the sugarhouse; farmers today use
miles of plastic tubing, which is laid by hand throughout the woods to
convey sap. The maple trees grow in a limited area: Quebec produces
about 79 percent of the world's maple syrup, followed by Vermont, with
the remainder from other states.

It takes a lot of maple sap to make syrup: Forty gallons boil down to
around 1 gallon of syrup. When it reaches the right density, the syrup
is filtered and poured hot into containers. To develop a consistent
product year after year, large manufacturers start with a specific
understanding of their preferred flavor profile, then carefully blend
syrup in batches before repasteurizing and bottling it.

The U.S. government enforces standards for maple syrup, requiring a
minimum of 66 percent density (a measure of sugar content) and grading
the syrup by color. The lightest-colored, most delicate-flavored syrup,
tapped at the beginning of the season when the sap first begins flowing,
is usually the most expensive-more than $1 per ounce. As the season
progresses and the weather warms, the syrup becomes darker and more
intensely flavored. Certain influences, such as insect infestations in
trees or tapping sap too late in the season, when buds are forming, can
produce off-flavors.

Although maple syrup has been poured since Native Americans first
discovered the sweetness of maple sap, pancake syrup is a modern
invention. The first brand, Log Cabin, concocted in 1887 as a cheaper
alternative, originally contained 45 percent maple syrup supplemented by
inexpensive corn syrup. As more brands came along, the real maple
content shrank; Aunt Jemima, for instance, made its debut in 1966 with
just 15 percent maple syrup. By the 1970s, most brands-claiming
customers didn't mind-had eliminated maple syrup from their products,
replacing it with a slew of artificial flavorings and additives.

Cloying and Candy like
As soon as we tabulated the results of our tastings, it became clear
that the pancake syrups would not do: Whether tasted on waffles or baked

Oh how I wish we could all be like the little children of God. What a wonderful
world this would be.
God's Wife

WATCH OUT FOR THE LAST STORYIT WILL KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF

Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to
judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child..

The winner was:

A four-year-old child, whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman, who
had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into
the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.

When his mother asked him what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy just
said, 'Nothing, I just helped him cry.'
*
Teacher Debbie Moon's first graders were discussing a picture of a family. One
little boy in the picture had a different hair color than the other members.
One of her students suggested that he was adopted.

A little girl said, 'I know all about adoption, I was adopted..'

'What does it mean to be adopted?', asked another child.

'It means', said the girl, 'that you grew in your mommy's heart instead of her
tummy!'
*

On my way home one day, I stopped to watch a Little League base ball game that
was being played in a park near my home. As I sat down behind the bench on
the first-base line, I asked one of the boys what the score was.

'We're behind 14 to nothing,' he answered with a smile.

'Really,' I said. 'I have to say you don't look very discouraged.'

'Discouraged?', the boy asked with a puzzled look on his face...'Why should we
be discouraged? We haven't been up to bat yet.'
*
Whenever I'm disappointed with my spot in life, I stop and think about little
Jamie Scott.

Jamie was trying out for a part in the school play. His mother told me that
he'd set his heart on being in it, though she feared he would not be chosen.

On the day the parts were awarded, I went with her to collect him after school.
Jamie rushed up to her, eyes shining with pride and excitement. 'Guess what,
Mom,' he shouted, and then said those words that will remain a lesson to
me.'I've been chosen to clap and cheer.'
*
An eye witness account from New York City, on a cold day in December, some
years ago: A little boy, about 10-years-old, was standing before a shoe store
on the roadway, barefooted, peering through the window, and shivering with cold.

A lady approached the young boy and said, 'My, but you're in such deep thought
staring in that window!'

'I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes,'was the boy's reply.

The lady took him by the hand, went into the store, and asked the clerk to get
half a dozen pairs of socks for the boy. She then asked if he could give
her a basin of water and a towel. He quickly brought them to her.

She took the little fellow to the back part of the store and, removing her
gloves, knelt down, washed his little feet, and dried them with the towel.

By this time, the clerk had returned with the socks. Placing a pair upon the
boy's feet, she purchased him a pair of shoes.

She tied up the remaining pairs of socks and gave them to him.. She patted him
on the head and said, 'No doubt, you will be more comfortable now.'

As she turned to go, the astonished kid caught her by the hand, and looking up
into her face, with tears in his eyes, asked her.

'Are you God's wife?'

[RecipesAndMore] Re: I FOUND JESUS THERE

2009-01-24 Thread Sherri Crum

Hi Steve,

Wow! Great post! Thanks.

Sherri

On 1/24/09, steve doyle steve.doy...@ntlworld.com wrote:
 I FOUND JESUS THERE

The surgeon sat beside the boy's bed; the boy's parents sat across
from him. Tomorrow morning, the surgeon began, I'll open up your
 heart...

You'll find Jesus there, the boy interrupted.

The surgeon looked up, annoyed. I'll cut your heart open, he
continued, to see how much damage has been done...

But when you open up my heart, you'll find Jesus in there. The
surgeon looked to the parents, who sat quietly.

When I see how much damage has been done, I'll sew your heart and
chest back up and I'll plan what to do next.

But you'll find Jesus in my heart. The Bible says He lives there. The
hymns all say He lives there. You'll find Him in my heart.

The surgeon had had enough. I'll tell you what I'll find in your
heart. I'll find damaged muscle, low blood supply, and weakened
vessels. And I'll find out if I can make you well.

You'll find Jesus there too. He lives there.

The surgeon left. The surgeon sat in his office, recording his notes
from the surgery: ...damaged aorta, damaged pulmonary vein,
widespread muscle degeneration. No hope for transplant, no hope for
cure. Therapy: painkillers and bed rest. Prognosis: here he paused,
 death within one year.

He stopped the recorder, but there was more to be said. Why? he
 asked aloud.

Why did You do this? You've put him here; You've put him in this
pain; and You've cursed him to an early death. Why? The Lord
answered and said, The boy, My lamb, was not meant for your flock for
long, for he is a part of My flock, and will forever be. Here, in My
flock, he will feel no pain, and will be comforted as you cannot
imagine. His parents will one day join him here, and they will know
peace, and My flock will continue to grow.

The surgeon's tears were hot, but his anger was hotter. You created
that boy, and You created that heart. He'll be dead in months. Why?

 The Lord answered,

The boy, My lamb, shall return to My flock, for he has done his duty:
I did not put My lamb with your flock to lose him, but to retrieve
 another lost lamb.

 The surgeon wept.

The surgeon sat beside the boy's bed; the boy's parents sat across
from him. The boy awoke and whispered, Did you cut open my heart?

 Yes, said the surgeon.

What did you find? asked the boy.

I found Jesus there, said the surgeon.

[RecipesAndMore] Ancho Chile Devil's Food Cake with Godiva Liqueur and Marshmallow Frosting

2009-01-24 Thread Sugar
Ancho Chile Devil's Food Cake with Godiva Liqueur and Marshmallow Frosting

The James Beard Foundation/Godiva Liqueur Baking Competition

New York Regional Competition Winner/Dessert Category

Wayne Harley Brachman, Pastry Chef, Mesa Grill and Bolo, New York City

Serves 12

1-1/4 cups cake flour

1/2 cup cocoa

3 tablespoons ancho chili powder

1/8 teaspoon cayenne

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

5 ounces (1-1/4 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature

1-1/2 cups sugar

3 eggs

3 ounces ( 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons) hot coffee

1/2 cup buttermilk

2 tablespoons Godiva Liqueur

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Set a rack in the middle of the oven and preheat to 350 degrees.

Lightly grease the sides of two 15-1/2 by 10-1/2 inch jelly-roll pans.

Line them with parchment or buttered waxed paper, melted butter or

non-stick vegetable spray for greasing the pan.

2. Sift the flour, cocoa, ancho, cayenne, baking powder, baking soda

and salt onto a sheet of waxed paper. Sift two more times to mix and

aerate.

Put the butter and sugar in the bowl or an electric mixer and beat at

high speed for two minutes until well combined and smooth. Add the

eggs, one at a time, beating until each is incorporated. Continue

beating until light and very fluffy, scraping down the sides of the

bowl if necessary, about five more minutes. With the mixer on its

lowest setting, or by hand with a rubber spatula, fold in one half of

the dry mixture. Fold in the vanilla and one quarter of the

buttermilk and coffee; another one third of the dry mixture and then

the remaining buttermilk and coffee. Finally, fold in the remaining

ingredients.

3. Spread the batter evenly in the two pans. Bake for 30 minutes or

until the center springs back when lightly pressed. Cool the cake

layers, in the pans, on a wire rack.

4. When cool, turn them out of the pans by inverting each one onto a

plate. Split each cake into two layers and fill with the Marshmallow

Frosting to create a four layer cake. Frost the outside with Ganache.

You may pipe on extra Marshmallow Frosting to decorate.

Godiva Liqueur Marshmallow Frosting

1/2 cup water

1 cup sugar

1-1/2 cups corn syrup

5 egg whites

a pinch of salt

1/4 cup Godiva Liqueur

1/4 pound (1 stick) butter at room temperature

1/4 cup confectioner's sugar

1. Put the water, sugar and corn syrup in a medium, heavy-bottomed

saucepan and cook over high heat to soft ball (240 degrees). If

necessary, stir a few times to help dissolve the sugar crystals.

2. Meanwhile, in an immaculately clean and dry mixing bowl, whisk the

egg whites with a pinch of salt. When soft peaks form, sprinkle on the

teaspoon of sugar and whisk until the peaks stiffen to the consistency

of shaving cream. Set aside until the syrup is ready.

3. While constantly whisking the egg whites, carefully drizzle in the

hot syrup. Mix in the Godiva Liqueur and continue to whisk until

cooled

down, thickened and spreadable.

4. In the bowl of an electric mixer, whisk together the butter and

confectioner's sugar. Fold in the egg white mixture.

[RecipesAndMore] Southern Cornbread (Yeast)

2009-01-24 Thread Angelique in Texas

Southern Cornbread (Yeast)
A yeasted cornbread is different—almost like anadama bread.
Because the kneading develops the gluten, it is more bread-like and less
crumbly than traditional cornbread.  Oh, and this bread would make
great Thanksgiving dressing. Southern Cornbread (Yeast)
1 (7 gram) package active dry yeast
1 cups warm water (100 to 110 degrees)
4 1/3 cups all-purpose or bread flour (more or less) 1 teaspoon salt
1 2/3 cup cornmeal
4  tablespoons melted butter
1/4 cup honey
2 large eggs
1 can whole kernel corn, drained
2 tablespoons cornmeal
1 egg for egg wash (optional)

Directions
1. In the bowl of a stand-type mixer, dissolve the yeast in the warm
water.
2. Add half of the flour and mix with a dough hook.  Add the salt,
cornmeal, butter, honey, two eggs, and drained corn and continue mixing.
3. While continuing to mix, add the flour needed to bring the dough to
a bread-dough type consistency.  The amount of flour needed will vary
largely on how well drained the corn was.
4. Knead as you would for other yeast breads and then remove the dough
to a greased bowl.  Turn once to oil both sides.  Cover with plastic
wrap and let rise until doubled.
5. Once doubled, divide the dough into two equal parts for two
loaves.  Form the loaves.  If you are going to make free standing
artisan loaves, grease a baking sheet and sprinkle the sheet with part
of the remaining cornmeal.  Place the loaves on the sheet.  If you
are making sandwich loaves, grease the baking pans well—the bread
tends to stick to the pans--and sprinkle cornmeal in the pans.  Let
the bread rise until doubled again.
6. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.  If you choose, just before
baking, whisk the remaining egg with one tablespoon water and brush the
egg wash on the loaf.  Sprinkle the loaf with cornmeal.  Bake the
bread for about 30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and tests
done.  Remove the bread from the pans and cool on racks.  Freeze any
extra bread or save the bread for croutons.

[RecipesAndMore] Kitchen Tip: Flatten Ground Beef Befo re You Freeze

2009-01-24 Thread Angelique in Texas

Kitchen Tip: Flatten Ground Beef Before You Freeze
: Flatten Ground Beef Before You Freeze
When buying pre-packaged hamburger, notice how the meat always seems to
have a big lump at one end from the way the machine extrudes it? Use
your hands to flatten it and disperse the meat evenly in the package
(being careful not to break the wrapping).
Alternately, remove the meat and place it in a 1-quart freezer bag. Then
flatten and spread it to fill most of the bag, then squeeze out as much
air as possible by zipping most of the bag, pressing out the last of the
air through the open corner, and then completing the zip.
Either way, the packages will stack better in the freezer, take up less
room, and defrost quicker and more evenly. And no more defrosted
hamburger except for that last solid chunk inside the big lump!

[RecipesAndMore] Lobster Spring Rolls With Lime Ginger Vinaigrette

2009-01-24 Thread Angelique in Texas

Lobster Spring Rolls With Lime Ginger Vinaigrette
Ingredients:
1 each Fresh lobster, about 1-1/2 lbs. cooked 1 head Butter lettuce
1 ea. Small carrot
1/2 ea. Hothouse cucumber
20 ea. Basil leaves
20 ea. Cilantro sprigs
40 ea. Garlic Chives
20 ea. Mint leaves
1/4 cup Toasted peanuts, chopped coarsely
15 Pcs. Rice wrappers
1 / 4 cup Rice wine vinegar
1 ea. Egg yolk
1 tsp. Water
1 cup Peanut oil
1/2 cup Cilantro, basil and mint leaves, loosely packed 2 Tbs. Rice wine
vinegar
1 ea. Juice of lime
1 Tbs. Minced fresh ginger
to taste Salt and pepper
Method:
prepare the vinaigrette-
Place the egg yolk and water into the work bowl of a food processor and
turn it on. Slowly add half of the oil then add the herbs and ginger
then puree until the mixture becomes smooth. Add the vinegar then add
the remainder of the oil. Finish with the lime juice then season to
taste with salt and pepper.
Prepare the rolls-
Remove the lobster meat from the shell and dice into 1/2 inch pieces.
Keep chilled.
Peel the carrot and wash the cucumber. Cut the cucumber in half
lengthwise and scoop out the seeds. Cut both the carrot and cucumber
into thin julienne and reserve. Prepare the herb leaves by washing and
spinning dry.
Separate, wash and dry the leaves from the lettuce, discarding the dark
green outer leaves. You will need one leaf for each roll. Lay the leaves
down, concave side up on a clean work surface and assemble the remaining
ingredients in each leaf starting with the herbs and finishing with the
lobster and peanuts.
Heat a 5 qt. pot of water to a boil and add 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar.
Dip a rice wrapper into the water for a second or two then lay out onto
a damp towel. After it becomes soft, place the lettuce cup into the
center and roll into a cylinder, tucking the ends in before the final
roll.
Chill well then slice the hard ends off and cut each roll into six equal
slices. Drizzle the vinaigrette over the top and serve.

Subject: [RecipesAndMore] DARK LETTER

DARK LETTER

PAY ATTENTION TO THE P.S. at the end!!

Letter from the Devil

This can really make you think. It actually made me really mad

while I was reading it, but it made me realize some things.

Plus,

I had to send it because of the P.S.

This is deep... and I wasn't

going to forward or share it, but that

last line... you'll see.

A LETTER TO YOU FROM SATAN

I saw you yesterday as you began your daily chores.

You awoke without kneeling to pray. As a matter of fact, you didn't

even bless your meals, or

pray before going to bed last night.

You are so unthankful, I like that about you.

I cannot tell you how glad I am that you have not changed your way

of living, Fool, you are mine.

Remember, you and I have been going steady for years, and I still

don't love you yet.

As a matter of fact, I hate you, because I hate God.

He kicked me out of heaven, and I'm

going to use you as long as possible to pay him back.

You see, Fool, GOD LOVES YOU and HE has great plans in store for you

But you have yielded your life to me, and I'm going to make your life a living
hell.

That way, we'll be together twice. This will really hurt God.

Thanks to you, I'm really showing Him who's boss in your life with

all of the good times we've had.

We have been...

watching dirty movies,

cursing people out,

stealing, lying, being hypocritical, fornicating, overeating, telling dirty
jokes, gossiping, being judgmental,

back stabbing people, disrespecting adults, and those in leadership positions,
no respect for the Church, bad attitudes.

SURELY you don't want to give all this up.

Come on, Fool, let's burn together forever. I've got some hot plans

for us. This is just a letter of appreciation from me to you.

I'd like to say 'THANKS' for letting me use you for most of your foolish life.

You are so gullible, I laugh at you. When you are tempted to sin, you give in

HA HA HA, you make me sick.

Sin is beginning to take its toll on your life. You look 20 years

older, and now, I need new blood.

So go ahead and teach some children how to sin.

All you have to do is smoke, get drunk or drink while under-aged,

cheat, gamble, gossip, fornicate, and live

being as selfish as possible.

Do all of this in the presence of children and they will do it

too. Kids are like that.

Well, Fool, I have to let you go for now. I'll be back in a couple of seconds
to tempt you again. If you were smart, you

would run somewhere, confess your sins, and live for God with what little bit

of life that you have left.

It's not my nature to warn anyone, but to be your age and still

sinning, it's becoming a bit ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I still hate you.

IT'S JUST THAT YOU'D MAKE A BETTER FOOL FOR CHRIST.

P.S. If you love me, you won't share this.

This is the day the Lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it.Psalm 118:24

Sugar Says:
Where there is grief, I hope I offered some comfort.
Where there is hate, I hope some love was found here.
Where there is doubt, I hoped I showed you words of faith.

I have a question. I was telling one of my room mates about this list, and she
is interested in joining. She is sighted though. Is this a blind-only list or
can she join?

Thanks in advance,

Becky

[RecipesAndMore] Do You Want A donut?

2009-01-24 Thread Jan

I first heard this story when I didn't have a computer yet. I had an
e-mail reader called net echo. A friend sent it to me. That was about
five years ago. I decided to see if I could find the story because I
think it's worth reading again.
Do You Want A Donut
There was a certain professor of theology named Dr. Christianson, a
studious man who taught at a small college in the western U.S. Dr.
Christianson taught the survey course in Christianity, which was a
requirement of every freshman regardless of major. Although Dr.
Christianson tried to communicate the essence of the gospel in his
class, he found that most of his students looked upon the course as
nothing but required drudgery. Despite his efforts, most students
refused to take the gospel seriously.

One year Dr. Christianson had a special student named Steve. Steve was
only a freshmen, but was studying with the intent of going on to
seminary for the ministry. Steve was popular, smart, and athletic.
Although only a freshman, Steve was the starting center on the football
team, and was the best student in the professor's class.

One day Dr. Christianson asked Steve to stay after class so he could
talk with him. How many push-ups can you do?

Steve said, I do two hundred every night.

Two hundred! That's pretty good, Steve. Dr. Christianson said. Do you
think you could do 300?

Steve replied, I don't know... I've never done 300 at a time.

Do you think you could? again asked Dr. Christianson.

Well, I can try, said Steve.

Can you do 300 in sets of ten? I have a class project in mind and I
need you to do about 300 push-ups in sets of ten for this to work. Can
you do it?

I need you to tell me if you can, said the professor.

Steve said, Well, I think I can. . . . yeah, I can do it.

Dr. Christianson said, Good! I need you to do this on Friday. Let me
explain what I have in mind...

Friday came and Steve got to class early and sat in the front of the
room. When class started, the professor pulled out a big box of donuts.
They were the extra fancy big kind, with cream centers and frosting
swirls. Everyone was excited it was Friday, the last class of the day,
and they were going to get an early start on the weekend with a party in
Dr. Christianson's class.

Dr. Christianson went to the first girl in the first row and asked,
Cynthia, do you want to have one of these donuts?

Cynthia said, Yes.

Dr. Christianson then turned to Steve and asked, Steve, would you do
ten push-ups so Cynthia can have a donut?

Steve said, Sure, and jumped down from his desk to do a quick ten.

Then Steve sat again at his desk. Dr. Christianson put a donut on
Cynthia's desk.

Dr. Christianson then went to Joe, the next in line, and asked,Joe, do
you want a donut?

Joe said yes, so Dr. Christianson asked Steve to do ten push-ups so that
Joe could have a donut. Steve did ten, and Joe got a donut.

And so it went down the first aisle. Steve did ten push-ups for every
person so that each could have a donut. And down the second aisle, till
Dr. Christianson came to Scott. Scott was on the basketball team, was in
excellent condition, and also was very popular. The professor asked,
Scott, do you want a donut?

Scott's reply was, Well, can I do my own push-ups?

Dr. Christianson said, No, Steve has to do them.

Scott said, Then I don't want one.

Dr. Christianson shrugged and turned to Steve and asked, Steve, would
you do ten push-ups so that Scott can have a donut he doesn't want? With
perfect obedience, Steve started to do ten push-ups.

Scott said, Hey! I said I didn't want one!

Dr. Christianson said, Look, this is my classroom, my class, my desks,
and these are my donuts, a free gift for you. Just leave it on the desk
if you don't want it.

And he put a donut on Scott's desk. Now by this time, Steve had begun to
slow down a bit. He stayed on the floor between sets because it took too
much effort to get up and down. You could see a little perspiration
coming out around his brow.

Dr. Christianson started down the third row. Now the students were
beginning to get a little angry. Dr. Christian asked Jenny, Jenny, do
you want a donut?

Sternly, Jenny said, No!

Then Dr. Christianson asked Steve, Steve, would you do ten more
push-ups so Jenny can have a donut she doesn't want? Steve did ten and
Jenny got a donut.

By now a sense of uneasiness filled the room. Students were beginning to
say no and there were all these uneaten donuts on the desks. Steve had
to put forth a lot of extra effort to get these push-ups done for each
donut.

There began to be a small pool of sweat on the floor beneath his face;
his arms and brow were getting red because of the physical effort
involved.

Dr. Christianson asked Robert, who was the most vocal unbeliever in the
class, to be sure and watch Steve do each push-up to make sure he did
the full ten push-ups in a set because Dr. Christianson couldn't bear to
watch all of Steve's work for all those

uneaten donuts. He sent Robert over to where Steve was so

Refreshing Thoughts

A leader is one who, out of madness or goodness, volunteers to take upon
himself the woe of the people. There are few men so foolish, hence the erratic
quality of leadership in the world.

[RecipesAndMore] BENNIGANS POTATO SOUP

2009-01-24 Thread Sugar
BENNIGANS POTATO SOUP

   3/4 ounce ham base (2 #40 scoop)

   2 quart chicken stock

   8 ounce yellow onion, diced

   3 ounce margarine

   2 pound potatoes, bite size

   1/2 teaspoon black pepper

   2 cup milk

   3 ounce flour

   3 ounce margarine

Combine chicken stock in saucepan with ham base. Stir until lumps are gone.
In separate stock pot: Melt first margarine measurement; add onion and sauté

until transparent. Add potato bite size pieces and pepper. Add chicken stock
mix and stir until well mixed. Bring mixture to a boil. In small pan, melt

second margarine measure and add flour to create a roux. It should be light
brown in color. When stock comes to a boil, add roux with a wire whisk. This

will cause the soup to start thickening. Return to a boil. Slowly add the milk.
If the soup is too thin, make additional roux and add it to the soup. If

you need to do this, be sure to cook the roux until a tan color. This will get
rid of the raw flour taste. If the soup is too thick, thin it out with more

milk.

A people's literature is the great textbook for real knowledge of them. The
writings of the day show the quality of the people as no historical

can.
