Skipp,
Can you explain why the DB201 is prone to intermod? Why is it any more
prone than a DB410, DB224 or any other folded dipole antenna? This is
interesting, I have never heard of this problem before.

Can you imagine a four-bay full size folded loop

Low Band VHF (typical 30 to 54MHz)) antennas are
so very large that you normally see only one loop

There's a 6M repeater here doing that also. Custom made by whatever A/S
calls themselves now.

If it's the one I'm thinking it is... you can use an

You get another one like it. They do not have enough tx/rx shielding for
duplex operation. In fact, you'll likely need to put any rx you use in a

No Paul, I can't really. There is no obvious reason why
the UHF antenna is prone to IMD generation.

You gave him the information...
Add another radio for the receiver in a box
underneath the flexar just like Motorhead did.
The flexar repeaters worked pretty well, but I
thought they were a dorky setup when I first saw them.
But they were cheap to make and very common as
the 2 and 25
PCTel, Maxrad and Ant Specialists.. I buy them
through Talley... also probably available through
Tesco.
Since the buyout/merger/what-ever you call it...
they've been horible about production delays. As
they ramp the products back up at the new factory
the wait time is falling to 3 weeks
I do have a questionIf the repeater is a traditional fm voice repeater.
wouldn't the digital signal have to be id'ed in either cw or voice
just asking...

It is identified in voice. Just say your call sign just as you would in
any other mode.

It's looked on as a regular voice mode, just digital modulation instead
of FM, AM, etc.

I also would be appreciative of all measurements looking toward

The reason the DB201 is prone to IM in duplex service is that corrosion
shows up in the connection where the element fits inside a cast aluminum
adapter on top of the insulator. Over time this joint fills with moisture
and becomes corroded. On the later models the connection was changed

Skipp,
I may be able to help. I honestly don't think mounting that style antenna
close to metal was your main problem unless there is some loose metal
already in the area of the antenna. Anything loose can cause this intermod
problem. This is basically the same problem you have with I guess

Did not see this until after I wrote my post on this same problem. This is
a well known problem, the bottom connection should be something better than
a set screw if you ask me. This is why DB went to spot welded dipoles but
you are correct, the problem still exists with the Bi-metal
Paul Skipp,
I just sent a brand new DB224 up to 310 ft. today and did the
hardware check beforehand. Three of the dipole machine screws had bottom nuts
(the first threaded onto the screw) that were not snug and another with a top
nut (attaching the harness) that was barely finger tight.
