Ian,
The SM-4450-NE is 488 to 512. If you program 517 you are out of band for
that radio.. The ones I have are the NC 450-470 and two special order NB
420-450 radios. The NB are not available anymore.
I know on the ones I have, when you get more than about 1 MHz out of band
the PLL will unlock
Chris,
Having work on many in the past and rebuilt 3 amp after lightning strikes.
Needless to say it took several hours to repair each and 3 days to rebuild
each.
I do not know if the parts are still available from Motorola, but they may
be. I know they do not repair them at the depot anymore.
Find,
I have tried to contact you direct. No reply.
Here is what I sent.

I'm not sure what the cost would be, but that could be worked out.
What is the price in USD that you want for the UHF Quantars?

Chris,
Fred could not have said it better. He is 100% correct. I have worked on
both, and I must say the Quantro is easier to work on.

Wesley,
We had several of these where I used to work. When our units would act up we
would take the cover off and unplug every module and reseat them. This would
resolve the issue about 90% of the time.
Good Luck.

Doug,
If you are measuring the VSWR at the TX Out you will see the VSWR of the
cavity and the antenna. If the cavity is not properly tuned you may see a
high VSWR. To check this put a dummy load on the antenna port of the
cavities. If the VSWR is less than 1.5:1 then you are good. If it is higher
The last crew I hired cost me $1.00 per foot per man on the tower plus
$60.00 per hour for ground crew.
The hard line you can estimate.

AJ,
I can not tell you about the Telewave, however I can tell you about the DB
units I have looked at.
They have a short on all ports, and the DB Engineers that I have spoken to
report this is the design. They are DC Short design just like the folded
dipole antennas. Resonate at frequency of
AJ,
You asked what is the lowest power level for the Mastr2 radio. I had taken a
250 Watt base and turned it down to 10 Watts out for testing purposes with
out generating any spurs.
However, If I remember to documents say to not run the poweer any lower than
50% of rated power out.
Remember,
Cry a bunch of tears, build a bridge and get over it!
Don,
You are correct. You will not have any problems except through the tower.
Put one bracket at the top and one at the bottom for stability.

You might even want to file a formal complaint with the FCC. What they did
was in violation of FCC rules and Regulations.
