I can get within 3KC and the frequency spread is at least 10 or 20 KC
but all down frequency. I had told them to check their capacitance
factor as the crystal formula for the cut is correct. I am going to
contact IC or Bomar on Monday and see about sending an element to them
to install a

Are you buying the crystal and soldering it in yourself? I have done many that way and about 15% of the time you have to change the capvaluein parallel with the trimmer to get it to net. This is true no matter where I get them from. The only sure bet is to send the element in.

I would contact them, and let them know what frequency it ended up at,
and take it from there.
Pulling a crystal off it's resonant point is not a very good idea.

Is that like the question: what is more accurate...a clock that is stopped
or one minute fast?
Way back when, I had an SCR-522 2 meter transmitter that had a bit too much
crystal drive. So much in fact, that the crystal would heat up excessively.
Of course it would be drifting to beat the
To all that suggested I check the caps I did and elected to remove
one of the Caps in line with one of the 2 thermistors. This allowed
the crystal to immediatly swing up and onto Frequency. So as a
temporary fix that is how it will stay until new crystal can be
shipped in with its own element

I'd go with the stopped clock. It is correct at least two times a day

How close can you worp the crystal to the proper frequency? How
much can you worp the crystal from minimum to maximum adjustment of
the adjust ment cap?
