[Repeater-Builder] 3450 LPI repeater

2009-07-15 Thread Scott
This is driving me nuts! I have a working 3450 but want a service manual for
when problems crop up. I have checked all the usual places, hoping someone
around here has one lying around the shop they don't need anymore and willing
to part with it.

[Repeater-Builder] ACC RC96 FC900 - Anyone accomplished PL Decode?

2009-07-15 Thread surf_boy82
Recently bought an RC96 and an FC900 along with one ICOM module. Everything is
working great.

As I understand it the stock equipment doesn't support PL decode. The gent I
bought the FC900 and ICOM radio from said he installed an MX-COM (Ramsey) board
in the FC900 (and it's there) to do PL Decode.

According to him, UF1 should turn PL decode on/off. This was originally set up
with an RC850, and I want to use it with a 96.

Turning UF1 on the 96 on doesn't do anything for the PL decode on this setup on
the 96.

Has anyone ever accomplished PL Decode using an RC96 and the FC900 interface?
I'd like to hear from you.

Thanks,

Chris/KF6AJM

[Repeater-Builder] RE: MotoTRBO Digital Repeater

2009-07-15 Thread Paul Metzger
Hello Eric,

The N6DVA group at [1]http://www.hamradio-dv.org has had one
up for 2 years now (actually running as a mixed mode system). I'm
the nut who built it, along with RF remote power control, RF
remote channel steering, telemetry, logging, GPS mapping, and
remote dispatch log ins. The control ops of each IP Site
Connected repeater will be given rights to log into the Master
Server located at my house and;

1. View prior radio traffic (date and time stamped).
2. Be able to playback prior radio traffic.
3. Be able to view whose radio is turned on and within range of
the repeater (if enabled within the subscriber unit).
4. Be able to use two different mapping interfaces to view the
location of subscriber units (you can generate your own maps, or
use google earth which zooms in on the particular unit of
interest).
5. Be able to RX and TX into the system using the speaker and mic
ports on their computers.
6. Texting via their computer, daily pre-set text bulletins to be
sent out to the subscriber units.
7. Use an intercom feature between remote dispatchers currently
logged into the server.
8. There's geo-fencing, changing of icons, adding users photos,
vehicles license, individual radio information, radio aliasing,
and more.

It's quite cool stuff.

I've been thinking about posting a small video on the N6DVA
website with respect to remote dispatcher / admin software I am
currently using, and in what capacity it is being used on the
N6DVA system. I've just gotta find the time : )

By years end, the N6DVA Mototrbo repeater should be linked up
with two more digital mototrbo repeaters. We right now deciding
whether to make it a digital only linked system, or linking the
Analog side as well between all three repeaters.

If it wasn't for the playground of Amateur Radio to play in, I
don't know where I'd be.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Happy Trails !

I had no idea what a 3450 is, until I did some Google searching and found
that you probably mean a repeater once made by E. F. Johnson. If so, a

[Repeater-Builder] WTT: SCOM equipment for ACC equipment

2009-07-15 Thread surf_boy82
Hi Group,

I have two S-Com 5 K controllers that are about to become surplus to my needs.
One of them is currently running on one of my repeaters, and the other is a
spare. Both are in EXCELLENT condition physically and work without issue. I
know one of them has the latest firmware in it, the other should as well but I
would need to verify that.

These are becoming surplus as I am replacing the controller on the repeater
with an ACC RC-96 and trying to unify everything with one platform (ACC).

Both controllers are in factory rack-mount cabinets. One has the LED display
panel, the other is plain. They do not have delay modules.

I would like to trade one or both of these controllers for some ACC equipment.
I am looking for the following:

RC-850, RC-85 or RC-96 controllers, FC-900 remote base interfaces, DVR units,
Doug Hall RBI-1 units, ICOM band stack modules (10m, 6m, 2m, 220, 440 or 1200),
etc.

If interested, please e-mail me off-list at surf_bo...@yahoo.com.

Thanks,

Chris

modules present (TX, RX, PA, Control, Power Supply and Duplexer).

I don't work with Johnson equipment and it is surplus to my needs.

I would like to sell it outright (PLEASE MAKE OFFER), or MORE PREFERABLY trade
it for any of the following:

Doug Hall RBI-1 Remote Base Interface
ACC RC-850, RC-85 or RC-96 repeater controllers
ACC FC-900 remote base interfaces
ICOM 900/901 band modules (10m, 6m, 2m, 220, 440 or 1200)

[Repeater-Builder] Repeater Antenna Recommendations?

2009-07-15 Thread Tony L.
I'm giving serious consideration to replacing my 17-year old Radio Frequency
Systems (Celwave) 1151, 8db Station Master type antenna with a brand new
colinear or exposed dipole model. The antenna is being used for a 70 cm
repeater.

Any recommendations? Should I just buy a new 1151, or are there
manufacturers/models more suited to repeater use (e.g., low noise, more
durable, etc.).

I chose an 1151 over a 455 (10db model) because I heard the the longer model
flexes too much in the wind. Comments?

Thanks.

[Repeater-Builder] PROGRAMMING MOT. HT-1000

2009-07-15 Thread afa5tp
Hello Group,

It is always confusing to figure out what computer to use for programming, ie.
speed of processor, what operating system, etc.
I am using a Ribless cable, pluged into Com 1.
The RSS appears to be DOS screen. (I looked at the RSS on a 2 gig processor
computer, running XP). Probably too fast,huh? I have a 386-16, Dos 6.xx
computer I use for Midland XTR programming. Would this be a better choice?

What type of above would I need to reprogram a UHF HT-1000?

The model # is H01SDC9AA3DN

I would like to program it to the 70 cm HAM band.

I have access to RSS 02.10.02 [RVN4098D], and 03.02.01 [RVN4098G]

Do I need to hold the [SHIFT] key while entering frequencies?

Thanks for any information.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Repeater Antenna Recommendations?

2009-07-15 Thread TGundo 2003

Can't go wrong with an exposed dipole array. There are several manufactuers out
there with similar models, and I'm sure you'll get many different opinions out
here, but I'm partial to the DB-420. I have heard stories the newer ones may
have some manufacturing issues, so other brands might be worth a look.
Unfortunatly, my pocketbook doesn't allow for brand new ones, so I'm happy with
re-furbing used ones ;)

I have two used ones in service, they probably had 10-15 or more years on them
when I put them on the air, 5 years for me so far without a hiccup. Don't worry
about the bandsplit on the DB's being for 450-470, they are really broadbanded.
I have a 450-470 in service on 441.300 and it's less than 1.3:1 that far down.

Exposed dipoles are much better than fiberglass with lightening as well. I know
I saw 2-3 pitt marks on the top of one of my 420's from past lightening
strikes. That same one is now mounted on a water tower, and appearantly that
site took a lightening hit not long ago. I would have never known except for
the fact I bumped into a maintence guy there who was replaced a pump motor that
got blown out by the strike. Happily my equipment survived untouched. :)

YMMV

RE: [Repeater-Builder] PROGRAMMING MOT. HT-1000

2009-07-15 Thread Eric Lemmon
Tim,

The Motorola RVN4098 software is a DOS program. That means genuine DOS
6.22, not a DOS Window or a Command Prompt running in Windows. I
program my HT1000 radios on a 2.6 GHz Pentium computer, but I first have to
boot it up in DOS 6.22 using a DOS boot disk. The speed of the computer is
generally irrelevant, so long as you boot it up in DOS.

Unfortunately, your H01SDC radio is designed to operate in the 450-520 MHz
band, and cannot be programmed to the 70 cm Ham band. The ideal radio for
Ham use is the H01RDC version, which can be programmed to any frequency in
the 403-470 MHz range.

The HT1000 radio is particularly sensitive to the voltage levels in the
programming data, and that is why a genuine Motorola RLN4008 RIB is
recommended. Many aftermarket RIB clones or RIB-less cables do not produce
accurate data levels, and may work intermittently or not at all. I have had
little success in using any of the aftermarket cables.

[Repeater-Builder] IRC3000A Repeater Controller

2009-07-15 Thread tahrens301
Hi folks,

We were given a couple of Kenwood TK-730s
an IRC3000A controller.

I've reprogrammed the radios, but it looks like
I also have to reprogram the controller.

I guess for some reason the controller also
decodes the PL. We've changed the PL from the
original, so although the box lights up, it doesn't
repeat.

Seems for a simple repeater hookup it wouldn't
take much to interface the two radios.

(I can't justify purchasing the software cable
to re-program the box one time)!

Anyhow, has anybody used these radios in a simple
repeater configuration? If not, I'll probably dig
into the schematics to see what signals come out
the accessory connector on the back.

We plan to use it as a FD mobile repeater, to take it
into areas that we don't have coverage from the
'normal' repeater. (it's on a different frequency)

Thanks!

Tim W5FN
