As one who is seeking to get my call sign - this post raises a question in my
head. Are call signs distributed according to region? For example, W2/N2/K2 are
in the Colorado region, etc? And thats for the sequential call signs, correct?

Yes! Call signs are assigned by regions of the country, such as mine
KF6NFW, the represents California, Alaska and Hawaii. The more specific
part of the call such as prefix, or in my call KF is from California, KH is
hawaii, and
By the way John, I hope you do get licensed, California doesn't have nearly
enough hams!, I came from Sacramento but got my call when living in Angles
Camp. There are a lot of friendly hams down your way as well!
