Anyone should contact the power company if you are not a electrician,
have them pull the meter socket . do that first if the seal is broken
you will have a big problem explaining that.
also I took a class back in 1984 that Meter Socket after you get an

] Ultimate test coax cables
Chuck,
I purchase the majority of my cable and connectors from TESSCO. I have
not had
to buy any RG-214 within the past few years, since I bartered for a large
quantity of new cable when a contractor had to install hardline instead of
the
RG-214 he had already bought
That's correct. Belden 8268, Coleman 8421, Remee Q001579, Rockbestos Suprenant
RG214-NS, and Times Microwave AA-4645 are non-swept versions of RG-214 cable
meeting M17/164-1. In my previous posting, I listed only those RG-214
cables meeting M17/75-RG214 and M17/190-1, both of which are
Where are you purchasing your RG-214 and connectors?

You are so right. Apart from
that, one time we had a heck of a time with the same item (in service) where
the spring was all rusted and corroded into 3 pieces. I have nothing

I found a Ratshack N right angle adapter on a 931Mhz 300 watt paging
station years ago. The adapter was actually glowing red from the
spring inside heating the case!

I've been thinking that doing another article on the perils of
cheap connectors and poor quality interconnect cables.
We already have one article by Jeff DePolo at

and
it's worth reading.

No, I tossed those years ago. I did look through my N connector box and
found one right angle N with no markings on it. I just sawed it in half
and it was a solid center conductor. I usually toss the no-name adapters.

I
agree, it is a good article. It explains why you shouldn't use them
instead of just saying "don't use them, they are bad".

Joe,
I've melted PL259 connectors on 20 meters but never
seen one glow because of the spring becoming so hot. Bet it took the temper and
tension out of that spring. We had a Radio Shack store in town catch on fire
last year.Someone placed some combustible liquid next to a space heater

Your overkill may have saved me a couple of hours today.
When I was working with my repeater I thought I had a big loss through the
duplexer. It turned out it was my substandard cables. Then it was a bigger
bear trying to tune it back after I messed with it.
I'm not sure what kind of cables
While the discussion is about proper and quality cable, don't forget to
keep away from PL 259 style Tee connectors sold by Radio Shack. They have
a little coil spring that puts pressure on the center conductor going between
both SO 239 ends. This little springis the center connectionand it
