the ring password protects only the optional ring nickname association
- the ring account does not require one - the account can be restored

there are 2 services you could host: the DHT service and the

that is another misunderstanding - the PIN number is only used to

i had a brief conversation with Dorina some months ago where i

IIRC, ring accounts do not have passwords - only if create a nickname,
that will require a password - DO NOT FORGET THAT PASSWORD EVER - it is
indelible and
you can never recover a password - an account can be restored if you
know the password and you kept the backup file - this sounds like a bug
though - what computer and OS are you using?
if you are talking about this message, that is just another user
reporting a bug - that person, for some reason, does not want anyone
to know her identity - perhaps it is bill gates and he does not want
anyone to know how much he secretly loves GNU

firstly, you never need to "log in" - just start the program and it logs in
secondly, the temporary password is used for adding a new device to an existing
account - you must have a properly configured and running (logged in) instance
of ring to do that
lastly, in order to restore an account,
it is not clear what you are actually asking to happen - the GNU license permits
you to make any modifications that you desire - you do not need to ask
permission to put our logo on the program and you do not need to give anything
for the service - the service itself is also open-source and you

i should add that ring barely supports debian 9 or ubuntu today - the
ring package in debian main is from 2016 which i dont think will even
work anymore - the ubuntu 'universe' package is also over a year old
(20170803) so other than compiling from source, users must be subscribed
to the ring

password then it may be possibly to re-claim the nickname - but if you
