radio in between spaces # 16 presents recordings and artists from the 
Discrepant launched by sound artist Gonçalo F. Cardoso in London in 2010. 
Discrepant has become a treasure trove for hybrid, unclassifiable, 
extraordinary "global music from somewhere and nowhere at the same time". For 
radio in between spaces Gonçalo Cardoso has created a playlist from the 
extensive Discrepant catalog, including music by Mazen Kerbaj, Carlos Casas, 
Laurent Jeanneau aka Kink Gong and Mark Gergis. Each piece will be introduced 
by a short artist talk.

Indian sound artist, theorist and writer Budhaditya Chattopadhyay introduces 
his research project "Connecting Resonances" on sound art from different 
regions of the Global South and presents his sound work "Decomposing 
Landscape". 

Namibian historian Memory Biwa and sound artist Robert Machiri from Zimbabwe 
discuss the work of their collaborative project ´Listening at Pungwe´. 
‘Listening at Pungwe’ activates sonic moments through installations and 
performances, as a way of deconstructing colonial archival practices, 
re-positioning subjects, and re-orienting sonic practices from various African 
regions. They propose to collectively hear/feel/create a new knowledge about 
the space and time in which we live.
In an open ended round table, all three artists will discuss the decolonisation 
and sound art.

Sophia Bauer & Raphael Kariuki / SOUND OF NAIROBI
Sound and media artist Sophia Bauer will present a radio adaption of her 
installation Kereita Forest Block. It is part of a body of work called Forest 
Scapes which explores the influence of colonialism on forest landscapes through 
sound. Then she talks about how an acquisition of knowledge that is based on 
the auditory, can make it possible to rethink the relationship between 
colonialism, people, places and plants and to reassemble established 
hierarchies.
Raphael Kariuki aka DJ Raph, DJ and Producer from Nairobi, will introduce SOUND 
OF NAIROBI (https://soundofnairobi.net/), an online open access archive, that 
was co-founded by both guests of this show and present a composition based on 
its sounds archive. SOUND OF NAIROBI employs sound as a material that can be 
archived, researched and explored as a source for information that can narrate 
the history of the city, now and in the future.

Open Call for Participation/Workshop 
Videonale, Bonn 15-17. April


in Kooperation mit der diesjährigen Videonale/Ars Cameralis und der Kandidatur 
zur Kulturhauptstadt Kattowitz 2016 realisiert die Künstlergruppe Mühlenkampf 
ein Austauschprojekt für deutsche und polnische junge Erwachsene. Inhaltlich 
geht es um ein Raumforschungsprogramm, das Bewusstwerden über eigene 
Lebensräume, die Analyse von Raumdarstellungen in Videokunst auf der Videonale 
und im urbanen Umraum und schließlich die Entwicklung eigener künstlerischen 
Raum-Visionen. Unser Forschungslabor ist Teil der Ausstellung im Kunstmuseum 
Bonn und in Kattowitz.

Nun sind wir auf der Suche nach 12 jungen Leuten (12 junge Polen und Polinnen 
aus Kattowitz haben wir schon, diese sind Studienbeginner/innen an der Academy 
of Fine Arts in Kattowitz), die mit uns künstlerisch forschen wollen!

Die Finanzierung für Material, Eintritt, Verpflegung und eine Reise nach Polen, 
Kattowitz wird gestellt!

Das ganze findet an Wochenenden statt, und zwar schon bald:

15. bis 17. April 2011 - hier wird bei der Videonale-Eröffnung mit 12 deutschen 
jungen Erwachsenen gearbeitet. Es wird mit der polnischen Gruppe über 
Internet/Skype/Chat über das Forschungsprojekt kommuniziert.

18. bis 20. Mai 2011 - Mühlenkampf fahren nach Katowice und arbeitet dort vor 
Ort mit der polnischen Gruppe in ähnlicher Weise wie anfangs in Bonn.

27. bis 29. Mai 2011 - die polnische Forschergruppe kommt nach Bonn, um mit der 
deutschen Gruppe die Forschungsergebnisse auszutauschen und gemeinsame 
Ideen-Welt-Um-Räume zu gestalten.

Im November wird die deutsche Gruppe nach Kattowitz zur Ars Cameralis fahren 
und dort noch einmal künstlerisch arbeiten (Termin noch nicht fix).

After a successful debut of showcasing international and local artists 
at last year’s Open Source Festival we are happy to announce this year’s 
open call for your (fat) chance operations in the form of video experiments.



Noun
1. Fat chance: synonyms: little chance, slim chance

   (fat) chance operations are the exhilaration we find in taking on

   challenges which are likely to fail so that we can boldly smirk at the

   negative predictions with a positive outcome.


We look forward to your (fat) chance operations in the form of video 
experiments or video documentation (aprx. 3 minutes long). The results 
of this open call will be presented in the Elektronentoto-Kabinenschau 
during the Open Source Festival in Düsseldorf on August 8., 2010.
