It seems like the most likely explanation here is that TiMidity doesn't have access to the audio hardware, and isn't producing sound. If your distro boots up with TiMidity running by default, as Ubuntu does, then I've found that the TiMidity process started by the init scripts frequently loses access to the audio hardware somewhere along the way. It's best to kill that off and run TiMidity by hand. I think the syntax you want is: timidity -iA -Oj -D Since you're getting sound out of synth plugins, you should definitely be able to get sound out of QSynth, if not TiMidity. -- D. Did you tell Rosegarden to use Timidity under the MIDI Studio settings? As an alternative, you can try using Fluidsynth, it works very well with Rosegarden, or QSynth (which can be used as dssi or standalone). -- Brett W. Hi Stefan, I always use ZynAddSubfx as I don't get how to work with Timidity. I like the sounds and find it easy to work with.
