It is supposed to do that. You need to turn "Local" off on the K-11. With Local Off, you can use your keyboard both as a synth and as a controller. It's the preferred method of working which is why both CakeWalk and Rosegarden default to loopback/thru mode. The K-11 manual mentions LOCAL OFF mode. Let me know if you need help digging through it. Looks like it's easy to find online. You could also turn off MIDI thru routing on specific tracks in Rosegarden (and leave Local On on your keyboard). This isn't recommended since this forces your keyboard to only talk to itself. In Rosegarden, select a track. In the Track Parameters box on the left, expand "Recording filters" and set the "Thru Routing" to "Off". Ted. -- What NetFlow Analyzer can do for you? This seems a quite typical MIDI thru (or echo) problem. I assume your keyboard is also producing sound. Maybe this can be useful (i.e. how to disable midi thru in rosegarden): http://www.rosegardenmusic.com/doc/en/studio-midi-routing.html Lorenzo. -- What NetFlow Analyzer can do for you? [Rosegarden-user] Re-send: MIDI loops back to keyboard
Hi, I sent this a couple weeks ago, but got a message back it was waiting for the moderator's approval. Never saw it make its way to the list, so re-sending now in case it got lost. Apologies if it actually made it through, but I didn't find it in the archives either so don't think it did. Hi, I recently blew the dust off my MIDI equipment and installed Rosegarden on Ubuntu. Looking good so far! To test it, I'm just using my old Edirol (Roland) USB MIDI interface and a Kawai K-11 keyboard. Keyboard is attached with MIDI IN/OUT cables and all audio is played on the keyboard (I've not installed a soft synth in Rosegarden). I quickly discovered that I have the exact same problem on Rosegarden as I had with Cakewalk on Windows (with a different interface; the Roland MPU 401) many years back - but I'm a bit unsure on how to describe it! Simply put, when I record using my keyboard, it appears that Rosegarden (or something) feeds the recorded MIDI immediately back to the keyboard. The consequence is that I get confused when I play - it doesn't feel right because the keyboard will play "two notes at once" - it will play a sound when I press a key and also play the same key (just with a slight delay) a few us/ms later. If I pull the MIDI IN plug on the keyboard the problem goes away, of course, but then I can't hear the other tracks play back so that also makes it kind of difficult... Again it's a bit hard to explain the experience acccurately, but hoping someone else understand what I'm talking about? Have tried googling for quite a while to no avail.
