Re: [Rosegarden-user] ZynAddSubFX plugin in Rosegarden plays the wrong instruments
Thought I would bump this thread to mention that now neither zynaddsubfx-dssi nor zynaddsubfx-dssi-git works in Rosegarden for me. Currently they produce sine waves and there's no menu for selecting an instrument, and "Editor" doesn't work either. I noticed this on 15.12, but I also tried compiling the newest Rosegarden and it still didn't work. Not sure if it's a problem with Rosegarden or the plugin. (And while I'm in list-posting mode, I should probably add: MAJOR THANKS to everyone involved in all the bug fixes in recent releases.) Re: [Rosegarden-user] ZynAddSubFX plugin in Rosegarden plays the wrong instruments
It seems this has been solved? Yesterday I saw that there was a new package called zynaddsubfx-dssi-git available from KXStudio, and installing that instead of zynaddsubfx-dssi solved the problem -- the plugin works great now! Re: [Rosegarden-user] ZynAddSubFX plugin in Rosegarden plays the wrong instruments
Thanks for the response! This issue was actually with the binary from the KXstudio repositories (so 14.02), which I had installed in order to get zynaddsubfx-dssi to show up at all in the synth plugins menu (although subsequently I've concluded that whether it shows up is contingent on the version of zynaddsubfx-dssi I install, rather than the version of Rosegarden). For the past few days I've been using a different computer with an Ubuntu Studio live USB, and I decided to install the same packages and see if I got the same results; I did. So then I compiled Rosegarden 15.08 from source and found that zynaddsubfx-dssi doesn't show up if it's the version from Ubuntu Studio, so I installed it from the kxstudio repository and then compiled Rosegarden again. At that point, I replicated the original error with the compiled Rosegarden. Perhaps the problem is with the kxstudio binary of zynaddsubfx-dssi, and the next step is to try compiling the plugin from source? I'll have to research how to do that, though. I haven't ever used the ZynAddSubFX plugin, and I'm afraid I don't have time to get it and test it at the moment. I can't say for sure that a newer Rosegarden will do you any good, but I would try that before I did anything else. Even if your problem still exists, at least you'll be running a more stable and better optimized Rosegarden. Ted Felix has done a lot of work in the intervening years. Building the source is typically very easy on Ubuntu, and there is absolutely no need to install that version anywhere. Just run it out of the build directory with ./rosegarden and you can run 15.08 and your distro Rosegarden side by side. If I get everything cleared off my desk before bedtime, I may come back to this today. If not, I'll follow up in the next few days. -- D. [Rosegarden-user] ZynAddSubFX plugin in Rosegarden plays the wrong instruments
I posted this on the linuxmusicians forum, and it was suggested I e-mail the list. I recently installed Ubuntu Studio 14.04. I installed Rosegarden and couldn't get the ZynAddSubFX plugin to load in it until I installed the kxstudio packages. Now the plugin is available, but when I choose an instrument, I don't get the correct sound -- everything seems to be either a sine wave generator or one of the string pads. A few of the instruments near the end of the list work, but the rest don't. If I run the standalone ZynAddSubFx program, the instrument bank selects the correct instruments, so the problem seems to be with the plugin or the way Rosegarden interacts with it. Just a few weeks ago I was using ZynAddSubFX in Rosegarden in Ubuntu Studio 12.04, and it worked just fine. Has anyone had this problem? How can I fix it? Would compiling from source be worthwhile?
