I have been connecting MS-DOS clients to the SAMBA server that is running
either KNOPPIX 4.0.2, CENTOS 4.2, FEDORA CORE 4 (ie latest versions of these
OS's standard installs no tweaks to the smb.conf). The transfer rate to the
server is about 300KB per sec (100 Mb Card at each end). W
When you say it "hangs up", do you mean you can't even login at the
keyboard? If so, this is highly unlikely to be a Samba problem, and
much more likely to be some wierd hardware issue, like a busted NIC or
stuffed memory.

Here is what version samba-server-3.0.20-3mdk dumps to the log. I installed this
on my (32 bit Mandrake 2006.0) laptop, and I have no problems.
I reckon that UDP port 137 (NetBIOS name service) is being blocked
between you and the remote host.
Have you tried creating a local entry in your LMHOSTS file which
matches the target servers' NetBIOS name? Give that a shot, I think
it might help.

I am having a heck of a time getting ACLs to work in Samba. I can create
files in the shares fine. But when I go to change permissions, I get an
access denied.
Nt acl support = yes
Security mask = 0777
Directory security mask = 0777
Admin users = myaccount

consistently get is "Failed to verify incoming ticket" Using wbinfo I can
pull the user and groups from the DC. Using krb5 I can get a good ticket

Hm, well I fixed this problem. For some *bizarre reason*, my
/etc/passwd file had been chmod'ed to 640 (rw-r-) - when it should
be 644 (rw-r--r--). Samba was unable to read the file when a user
logs into the domain because the user that the smbd process was
running as had no access to the pas

Now it is Gentoo 2005.1 - K 2.6.14 - Samba 3.0.20b
Everything works exelent and much more faster now but sometimes it hangs
