especially the Dos filenames.
I've got 2 Directory's in my office network install.
1 called 'Microsoft Office' and
1 called 'Microsoft Visual Studio'
the Office dir is hidden true 'hide files' in the smb conf.

Couldn't you backup the Machine SID and Domain SID from the original

I am currently using Samba on Centos 4.4 as a domain member of AD 2003 with

Hello,
I wan't to migrate accounts, roaming profiles and other shares from Samba
2.2 (Slackware) to Samba 3.0.23 (Debian).
It should be transparent for clients. I migrated linux user accounts,
smbpasswd file, smb.conf and domain SID. I can join new client to the new
domain and it works, but when
Hi All,
I have a tdbsam backend on Samba PDC and am trying to set a user up as a
domain admin. I read that instead of the old admin users line in
smb.conf you now use net groupmap to map unix groups to NT groups.
I have a user called toni in unix group admins and have run:
net groupmap add
you still have to grant toni priviliges.

Can someone help me figure out what is going on here? For quite some time now,
our implementation of Samba has been humming along without problems. Now all
of a sudden I am unable to get valid sequence numbers for one of our domains.
Here are the details...

Hello,
My main question is :
« Is it possible to have a dedicated Default Profile per group ? »
The idea is to have a specified and prepared default profile for each
groups we have. For the time being we've already had a Default User/
directory in our netlogon directory which delivers a
Hello Adam,
How can a samba user login into Windows Machine and be able to change the
password?
Do we need to create the samba user locally on windows machine?
Or do we need to specify security=domain or security=ad on the Samba

Thanks and Regards,

add a samba machine account (smbpasswd -a -m machine), the account must
first exist in /etc/passwd (or LDAP). useradd -n -d /dev/null -s
/dev/null machine\$ if /etc/passwd, if in LDAP use the smbldap-passwd tool.
then add the user to samba, smbpasswd -a user
then in windows

Stuart,
Thanks very much for trying. I think you've proven what I suspected.
The smbpasswd NO PASSWORD behaviour has changed and the documentation
no longer agrees with the behaviour. The samba smbpasswd man page, at
least as of samba-3.0.24, clearly indicates that this should work. It

Several posters have said that the Realtek 8168 and 8169 chips have caused
slow file transfers with Samba. They solved their problem by changing to
