Im running debian etch with samba 3.0.26a
and about 15 XP SP3 pc's and 60 XP SP2 pc's
ldap backend and this setup is running for 4 years now
no problems here...

I must upgrade/move my samba to a new server.
This is the way i want to do this.
server 1 , backup, copy /etc/samba and /var/lib/samba to new server.

set ip as server1,
place backup on server2.

this is a dns+dhcp issue what you windows is not resolving.
your setup is not corrrect.
Im running firestarter on 4 debian servers here, all have also

but if you make sure you have good network components.
set you network card fixed to 1000Mbit Full of 100Mb full duplex.

Im using outlook 2003 here with the pst file on a network drive.
I have about 65 users with at most 50 active at the same time.
pst size vary from 50 Mb to 1500Mb
Server is a P4 3.0 with RAID 1 - 10.000 SCSI drives. and outlook
isn't slow. 3 users have the pc lokal but this is because the size
hmmm giving users local admin rights, thats not the way to do it.
and makes your network insecure..
Better control this through de domain groups.
this is how i do it.
i create a domain groep, add the users in it, and through loginscript
i create a local group and add the domain group in it.
i suggest you setup a dynamic dns server with dhcp
then, set dns proxy = yes in samba and set owlevel to 65
i bet this works.
bij raising the os level the server annouces it as highest master browser.
bij setting up a ddns+dhcp server, you xp client wil be correctly recorded
in the dns

these are the things you should check for.
nt acl support = yes
map acl inherit = yes
map hidden = no
map system = no
map archive = no
store dos attributes = yes
ea support
i suggest setting up ldap syncrepl
if needed you can use it in multi master mode.
( im running also etch, with pdc and bdc + 1 ldap master and 4 slaves. )

for example 777, so everybody can write
set in samba share.

hide unreadable = yes
create mode = 600
directory mode = 700
force group = office
users WIL be able to create files, but when created
not allows to
copy file too but windows tells that the file exist in case that in

I had this problem also.
I was using the Point en Print Setup for upload the printer drivers.
i also tried deleting the registry keys in windows, but my solution was.
i reuploaded ( overwrited ) my printer drivers, set de settings per printer
again, and my problem was solved.
No slow printer
make sure your pcname resolving works,
as i can see sofar, i think thats your problem.
Setup a Dynamic DNS on the PDC. ( dhcp + dhcp )
and to test this before you go to work.
fill in \windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
servername IPADRESS
do this on all of the pc's
and test again.
i
