now have a Default User profile. When I create a new user and log on for
the first time, I have the pre-defined profile as a template, so
necessary changes only need to be made in one profile.

Trying to investigate this some more, I would like to have Samba send
the output to a file, rather than pass it to CUPS, so I can look at
the file; or, prevent CUPS from deleting its spool file.

share, so access denied is quite impossible.
Did you restart smbd after inserting the line?
Maybe something basically broken...?!?
Next idea is a look to the log.smbd at log level 10.

was that the WinXP login/password were not the same as the Linux/Samba
