when I try to tar or cp smth to a smbmount. On both machines I can
successfully do dd if=/dev/zero and create a file of 3GB, I can also tar
-cvf it but no cp to smb. RH8 if it matters...

Except.. Most of my net sends don't end up working.. They fail unless I
explicitly do a nmblookup and specify the broadcast to find that
computer..
Seeing how im dealing with the entire contents of 10.x.x.x around
20,000 computers that I may have to contact

To map my (windows) users with unix accounts, I use a large (!)
username map file. Apart from being large, I'm not happy with the way

Haven't been able to find any information on either issue.
1) We have Windows clients (primarily NT4sp6a and WinXP sp1) connecting to
Samba servers, and it works fine but the connections are slow. They take
5-10 seconds whereas connections to native Windows servers are nearly
instant.
