since some days we have follow entries in the logfile:
smbd/service.c:make_connection(340)
Couldn't find free connection
Google says less or nothing. Can I control this with
"max connection = 0".
Any another ideas? Please help.

Does samba 3.0 and Veritas's VFS work well together in terms of ACL
support? We currently use XFS but will be bringing a large Veritas file
system online shortly, I'd like to know if I'm getting into a
potentially painful situation or if I can expect an easy ACL migration.

I have been trying to get my win2000 clients to re-join our DOMAIN since
upgrading to 3.0 I can access smb shares with 'NET USE ' no problem
but when trying to change win2000 from workgroup to domain it asks for
use & password - this always fails with :-
"login failed: unknown user or bad
There need to be a unix account for all the users
( unless you use security=domain combined with smbbind )
but you can just put an "*" in the password field of
/etc/passwd or /etc/shadow depending on what you use,
or set their shell to "/bin/false" that way they will not
be able to log into unix

Right, I can't drag a file in the finder to a mounted samba 3.0 share, I'll get an
"insufficient privileges error". But if open the Terminal I can copy the file onto
the samba share no problem with the cp command.

permissions are checked not via samba!

If you want to set multiple group acces, you must use ACL.
the valid user parameter in smb.conf force the right of directory but the
unix right is only for group user.
