our costumers are using using AutoCAD from 2002-2007 on samba 2 + 3.
IMHO, samba 2 may be a good choice for AutoCAD.

the possibility to store scans on a network share (smb).
path, username and password are checked on a workstation and are ok.
the printer has full access to the network.
unfortunally samba denies access:

I would like profiles to be stored locally and
automatically created when a new user logs in. So, if a
roaming profiles are copied at login from the server to the client. at
logout they will be copied back...
if netconnection is broken, the client uses the temporary copy on itselves.

What should this tell me? As far as I understood your link, it's about
making Win XP Home Edition join a Domain. I don't have XP Home, just XP
mission impossible!
windows XP home does not support domains!!
Pro and some Windows 2000 Pro boxes.

look at samba-path/private/smbpasswd but don't change it
it's cryptic, but u see all users in there
