I am trying o use the winbindd deamon on Samba 2.2.8a but cannot locate the

Dunno, I've not traced it. I'm guessing it has

expected structure and/or rules may have since changed.
Also there is a reported problem that there is no efficient mechanizm
for returning the last used uid or if there is, that it is so new there
is little documentation

different place? I am assuming this will be possible in 3.0? Right
now, of course, it looks in the system database (getent passwd).

There don't. I have no problem joining the domain if I add the machine
by hand to the ldap database. I just can't get it to add itself
automagically like it is supposed to. I think this may be due to some
issues with the scripts. I've just gotten a new one to try though.

An alternative solution is to add the name without the trailing '$', then
use vipw to edit the entry by inserting the '$'.
It's an ugly hack, but it get's you around an irritating road-block.

I have resently shifted from a windows server to a linux server (Mandrake
9.0). I have configured the /etc/samba/smb.conf file and I have the server
shown in the network neibourhood of my win clients. But I am not able to
login the server. Could anyone please help me??

I'm running the newest samba server
I have Samba v2.2.7 on Solaris 8. I have uploaded all the needed print
drivers and setup several printers using administrator. I edited the
'device settings', under printer/properties, to adjust memory and paper
trays etc.
When I login as a regular user on W2k client, the settings are
