[Samba] Samba question

2012-12-13 Thread Jim Bergherm
Hi.

I am not a developer, or IT person, so, I have what is probably a dumb
question. I am looking for a way to connect my kindle fire to my company
network through vpn. I have established a connection, but am not able to see
anything on the network. I had downloaded an app from AntTek that said it
connected using Samba/Window technology. The description of their app sounded
like it might do what I wanted, but I haven't been able to make it work yet. I
thought I would check with you before I spent any more time on it.

Thanks for your help

You won't lose any data. Samba simply makes your files available on the
network.

All,

 I'm trying to find out if you can limit Samba to only pull user accounts
from a particular Active Directory OU. My AD has over 200K contacts entries
for the global address list so I would like samba to only query the location
with the valid user accounts. I'm running samba 3.0.1.

Thanks for any help/suggestions you can provide,

Brian,

You are first going to want to update samba as the current version of
the 3.0 codebase is discontinued and getting no security updates:
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba3_Release_Planning

It may also help to post what your smb.conf to see how it is configured
so far.

[Samba] SAMBA QUESTION

2010-02-22 Thread Bruno Camargo
Hello Samba folks,

I'm a network admin from Brasil and I'm using samba as a domain
controler and share server in one of my clients. We're having a
problem with one user that is altering a file that cannot be altered
by him anymore. I'd like to know if possible to create an access-list
that would tell samba to set read-only access for this user only for
the directlry and all .xls files. Is there something like this?

Thanks a lot

oh and one more thing i have set up samba on my SUSE 9.3 and i can map the
share folder from windows box on to my SUSE all i need to be able is set the
permissions so when the user maps the SHARE folder in windows to have access to
share but not the confidential folder in side the share.

[Samba] Samba Question - Windows / Linux

2005-12-13 Thread Jamie Borst
I'll preface this by saying I'm a sales person and am not super technical.

Question:
We are looking to implement an iSCSI SAN that will be accessed by
Windows and Linux servers. We want everyone to have access to all files so
the question is: will Samba on the Linux servers allow them to access the
same files the Windows folks can? All servers have iSCSI initiators on
them.

If you need more info to answer the question, please let me know.

Thanks

Did you read the WHATSNEW.txt notes in your Samba 3.0.10 release. I believe
you will find the magic answer there. However, since your posting is very
short of detailed information it is a little hard to help you with a direct
solution.

Have you read the Samba-HOWTO-Collection and the Samba-Guide for information?

Yes. Samba can handle files that are larger than 2GB on Linux kernels 2.4 and
later. Please do NOT confuse smbfs with Samba. smbfs is a Linux kernel driver
that is NOT part of Samba. smbfs is a superceded technology and has been
replaced with CIFSFS which supports large files also, however, I would refer
you to the maintainers of CIFSFS for specific details pertaining to that
project.

[Samba] Samba Question

2004-12-23 Thread Bill Sommerville
My name is Bill Sommerville and I need a little help.
I am fairly new to Samba and I would like to connect to two shared accounts
on one system.
So in other words I have a maindata and a graphics account on a Linux

When I map to the maindata account, everything is fine.
When I try to Map to the graphics account,
I get this message from Windows saying I must disconnect from the

Is there any way I can avoid this? I am sure it is in the config file,
but I am not sure where. Or is it in Windows?

I use to be able to do this, but after a few upgrades something changed.

Thanks

Will,

I read your post, and the error messages you were getting on the 'net

Can you please elaborate on what you did to fix it? What version/dist.

I'm using SuSE 8.2 professional, samba 3.0 b3, and have been trying the
MIT version of kerberos (1.3.1).

[Samba] Samba Question !

2003-01-17 Thread darren_shaw
My name is Darren Shaw and I work in the IT Dept for an Engineering
company.

I would like some help me with a Samba problem I would very much like to
resolve quickly if possible.

I am using Solaris 7 and Samba version 2.2.2.
I have created a local Solaris User Account called 'oracle' and also added
the Samba User name 'oracle'.

I have setup a couple of Samba shares and want to do the following ...

The 'scanfiles' share I want to be username password protected and be
writable only by username 'oracle' !
The 'sap' share I want to be public and read only by anyone !

The following smb.conf file I am using allows both shares to be
accessed without entering a username and password.

[global]

   workgroup = workgroup

   log file = /usr/local/samba/logs/log.%m
   security = share

[scanfiles]
comment = Directory for Scanned Images
path = /data_archive/repository
writable = yes
public = yes

[sap]
comment = Directory for SAP
path = /data_archive/repository/SAP
read only = yes
public = yes

Question.
How can I set the 'scanfiles' share to prompt for a username and password ?
I take it the 'sap' share is ok as it seems to do what I want at the
moment.

Many Thanks,

Darren Shaw

First, try taking off the public directive. That might get you a password

Second, to only let a certain user write to this share, read:

[Samba] Samba Question w/ RH 7.3 and Windows

2002-10-22 Thread Scott Wrosch
Hello,

A question I'm sure has been answered before, but I'm
still relatively new to Samba, and having just moved,
have not been able to locate any of my Samba reference
materials.

Anyways, I'm running a small Samba server at work
using RedHat Linux 7.3. I did not set up Samba during
the RedHat installation, but rather downloaded it and
installed it afterwards.

Anyways, the network uses a Windows 2000 Server as the
PDC. And we have various groups set up in the server.
 What I want to do is set up a share that can be
accessible only by the members of a specific group
that's already created in the Active Directory setup.
Can this be done?

be much appreciated.

Thanks and regards,
Scott M. Wrosch
