I bought this new printer-scanner-copier and it works very well as
printer under my Ubuntu 8.04 system. However, even if HPLIP seems to
support this model as scanner, it is not recognized by xsane. Can you
kindly point me a tutorial or any other info on how to get this
scanner

apparently this thing is under some sort of HP license, and it does
not contain any source code. It cannot be included in sane. There has
been some (slow) motion toward a free backend on this list.

(1) sane-find-scanner:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x4f17 [HP Color

Your mail gets thru just fine now. Unfortunately, the gt68xx backend
is unmaintained, so unless you've got some C skills or can interest or
pay a developer, you might be out of luck.
