Re: [Savannah-help-public] svn vs. arch

2005-05-22 Thread Sylvain Beucler
Hi Karl,

GNU Savannah being, in a way, part of the GNU project, wouldn't it
make sense to put efforts in supporting GNU Arch first?

You know, It means that the developers agree to pay attention to
making the program work well with the rest of the GNU system--and
conversely that the GNU project will encourage other GNU maintainers
to pay attention to making their programs fit in well with it.

Or is that unrelated?

The idea of supporting subversion has come up before. Idealy, it would be
fantastic to have both subversions, cvs, and GNU Arch available on Savannah.
Subversions would be easier to implement on Savannah than Arch, but for now
there are no formalized plans to support either of the versioning systems.

FWIW, I personally would find subversion support far more useful for
maintaining my GNU packages. Based on discussions with other GNU
maintainers, I don't think I am alone, either.

Just thought I'd mention it, no particular reply needed :).

  Happy hacking,

I can't argue with that.

I wonder how and when Arch got dubbed GNU. It did not go through the
evaluation process, as far as I can tell. Oh well.

Hi,

You can attach the source code to the tracker
https://savannah.gnu.org/task/index.php?func=detailitemitem_id=4176
if it is 500kB.

If it is bigger, just wait for a Savannah hacker to review your
project. He'll ask you to send the source code by mail.

savannah web cvs repository, as always, and there's some problem now:

source-highlight.html index.html

I removed that file since index.html and source-highlight.html are
 two different pages. However,

 http://www.gnu.org/software/src-highlite/index.html

 still points to

 http://www.gnu.org/software/src-highlite/source-highlight.html

then I re-inserted .symlinks as follows

index.htm index.html

and added the index.htm page but still nothing has changed: index.html
 still points to source-highlight.html

 do you have any clue?

is there any bug in the system, or something I did wrong?

the best thing for me would be to definitely remove .symlinks.

please, answer as soon as possible, otherwise I won't be able to
correctly maintain the GNU source-highlight web page.

 thanks in advance

 Hello Sylvain, Hugo, and all,

I've finally revamped the http://www.gnu.org/help/evaluation.html page
to be a more complete description of how to submit software to GNU,
 along with other information.

Thanks!!

It looks good, the only comment I would make is to make the headers of
the section a little bit bigger and bolder than the text in the
paragraphs. To be more precise:

Offering software to GNU
What it means for a program to be a GNU package
Helping evaluate software for GNU

Everything else looks good.

I also updated http://www.gnu.org/help/help.html in various related ways.

I liked that too.
