* System Name:  *multigraph*
* Type: non-GNU software  documentation
* License: GNU General Public License v2 or later

 Description:
A Java package to provide a Graph data-type, with the following design
goals:

- Should be easy to use and have a simple interface
- Should be as generic and general as possible
- Should be highly scalable

Several different variations of graphs are supported:

- Multi-graph
- Simple graph

Further restrictions of the Graph interface should be easy to implement, e.g.
tree, or DAG. Graph edges may be weighted, optionally.

General utility graph algorithms are also provided, including:

- Force-directed layout
- Dijkstra's Shortest Path First

and we hope to add more.

 Other Software Required:
Java, http://java.sun.com/, GPLv2 + exceptions.

2010-01-09 Thread Paul Jakma

Follow-up Comment #1, task #10051 (project administration):

Hi,

Just wondering if this could be approved. It seems fairly simple:

- the project has no external dependencies, other than Java (which is
GPLv2+exception, and which usually ships with systems)

- the submitter is the copyright holder for all the code

- the code is GPLv3

Thanks! :)

Follow-up Comment #3, task #10051 (project administration):

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for looking!

I have added a new tarball with full headers on the files.

This has been tested with IcedTea yes. Indeed, I have only tested with Free
Java implementation. It has no dependencies on any parts of Java that do not
yet have free implementations (which I believe are very very few now, these
days).

Cheers,

Paul.

[Savannah-register-public] Re: [task #10496] Submission of Quagga Routing Software

2010-09-13 Thread Paul Jakma

On Sun, 5 Sep 2010, Alex Fernandez wrote:

Hi Paul,

Sorry for the delay; there is a bit of a backlog after the summer
Holidays. I am reviewing your submission on behalf of Savannah, and
there are a few issues with it:

* You speak about Linux, but we prefer that you use GNU/Linux:
it gives credit to the GNU project besides the Linux kernel. Read
the Hosting requirements
https://savannah.gnu.org/register/requirements.php for more
details.

Oops, yes.

* Some documentation files (NEWS, README, Changelog...) lack the
required GPL header.

The ChangeLog file is deprecated iirc. We'll remove it. For stuff
like a README file, I'm not eniterly sure it makes sense to add a GPL
header - it would detract from the immediacy of the content. Further,
I do not anticipate ever caring about copyright infringement on such
files, and anyway it should already be clear from the COPYING file
that these are GPLed (the header is added to more important files,
like C source, just to ensure readers can't miss the fact).

* There are a few PNG files in there, but it's not clear where they
come from. The best solution is usually to state in the README or
some similar file the license for each one.

You're probably looking at a 'make dist' tarball, and the PNGs come
from the 'Dia' files in the same directory, I think.

Please upload a new tarball with these issues solved, and let us know when
it's ready for a new review, OK?

Ok, that will take a week or so - am on holidays. ;)

Finally, you say that Quagga is a fork of GNU Zebra; while forks
are sometimes necessary (and GNU Zebra seems to have stopped
development in 2005), it might be better to help the original
package move along. Have you contacted the authors of GNU Zebra,
and/or the GNU project, to see if they would like some
contributors?

Yes we did. We were in contact with RMS and the FSF about this even
before the fork - which was quite a while ago. The original GNU
project is mostly dead in terms of community and development,
relative to Quagga. Unfortunately, they were not willing to hand the
project on.

As per Karl, things just are as they are in this regard.

I'll try address your issues soon. I will probably submit a tarfile
without the auto-generated bits next time (maintainer clean kind of
thing).

[Savannah-register-public] Re: [task #10496] Submission of Quagga Routing Software

2010-09-27 Thread Paul Jakma

Hi,

I'll try get to this - I'll probably be a little busy this week and
next. If you want to proceed with it, that'd be great. I'm confident
I and others will fix the issues soon. Setting up the Savannah
project will allow me to get other maintainers involved on this.

The one issue we were thinking to not fix though is putting the
full-sized GPL headers into /all/ the files. There are certain files
where this is overkill and not warranted (e.g. because unlicensed
copying of just that file will never ever be something that would
bother us), e.g. the NEWS and TODO files. We're thinking instead to
add a short, one-liner to remind the reader the file is available for
distribution under the terms in the accompanying COPYING file.

Thanks,

Paul

Update of task #11033 (project administration):

Follow-up Comment #1:

Hi,

I reviewed your project, and there are some issues that would need to be
addressed:

* Some files do not contain any copyright notice or information. E.g.
FAlexUnit/nbproject/*.bash, FAlexUnit/*.f95, FAlexUnit/Makefile, a number of
files under Alex/, and probably more.

* Many files lack a Copyright name year line. Some have a author: ...
line, but the more explicit notice would be better.

* Many files lack a notice to state what licence the file is available under.
This applies even to files that include the full copy of the GPL - these often
are still missing a declaration to explicitly place the file under the GPL.

There are some other changes which would be good to fix, but do not need to be
addressed for approval:

* There are a number of auto-generated files which probably shouldn't be part
of the sources. Java class files, .mod files generated from Fortran source
(?), binary object files and executables particularly, as well as a number of
build related files (shell scripts, makefiles, some XML) which say they are
auto-generated. Additionally, the doxygen generated documentation probably
should not be in the sources. They would be better kept separately under the
project's web space.

* Some files seem to contain personal data, like file paths (files in
*/nbproject/private/ particularly), which the author might want to remove.

* Many files contain the full text of the LGPLv3 in their pre-amble, this
isn't bad per se, but more common practice is to use a shorter notice that
refers to a single copy of the licence text, which is usually kept in a file
called COPYING in the top-level of the project. See:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html

* The tar archive contains a number of top-level directories (Alex, FAlex,
FAlexPerf, etc). It's more usual to create just a single top-level directory,
named after the project, and to create further directories under that.

If you can fix those and submit an updated tarball, we can look at that.

Thanks,

Paul.

I've approved your project! You should receive mail notification with further
instructions shortly.

A minor nit: Your README says This program is free software; you can
redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public
License (GPL), version 2., could you change the end to version 2, or (at
your option) any later version to make it consistent with the notices in the
source files and reduce the risk of a misunderstanding?

Thanks!

There's a couple of little issues you should fix once you've got your files

* You need to include actual files for the texts of the licence(s) you're
using. I.e. there should be at least one COPYING file for the GPLv3, and an

* the makefile should also have a copyright and licence notice.
