i've already been complaining about stupid GUI partitioner during the
RHEL 7.0 setup, including Red Hat official forums.
For me it was easier to switch from gui installer to console
(ctrl,alt,fx), create all needed partition with parted (or fdisk), then
VG with vgcreate, LV with lvcreate

It's not just RH though, eg. lately, i had to install OpenSuse and it's
susefirewall2 feature with NM was 'killing' my brain for 3 days... then
i rewrote systemd scripts and redirected them at my custom i
d so hard to get some resemblance of 'cli'
(power shell they call it?) and on the other hand some Linux distros
work so hard to 'hide' the 'cli', so that admins can just click/drag in
some buggy python GUI?

download/install nmap for windows and scan your SL 6.9 box and see if
the VNC server port is visible to your client.
If you log on the SL box, you can check, if the vnc runs eg by:
netstat -tulpn | grep -i vnc
