*not* a good idea. we've discussed before getting overexposed actors to play
certain roles. Cruise is still Cruise, and we'll be so focused on Hey, Tom
Cruise is playing Captain Pike that it'll ruin the suspension of disbelief.
What a stupid a$$ move! Just get a good unknown, for goodness
You just made me laugh during a very difficult time! I completely agree! I
heard this mournful response all the way here in Texas!

Right. In the original lore of the first series, Captain Pike was the second (I
believe) commander of the Enterprise (Robert April was the first?) He served as
captain for many years before being transferred to another ship. Later, Pike
was severely crippled in an accident where he was exposed

Exactly. Really, I wouldn't even want a name director like Abrahams attached.
Just give me a good director. I wouldn't mind seeing what Paul Greengrass could
do with it.

August 6, 2007 - IGN has learned from a trusted source that director
J.J. Abrams would like to have an A-list star cameo in his forthcoming
big-screen reboot of Star Trek. According to our source -- whose scoops
have always panned out in the past -- Abrams is wooing his Mission:
Impossible III

Tom Cruise in a Paramount movie? And a Star Trek one, at that? HIGHly
unlikely. This sounds like Abrams talking out the side of his neck trying to
keep the publicity going. If anything, THIS is what ends up being Matt
DamonĀ¹s role. The rumor mill on this is crazy.

That sounds reasonable. I'd hate to miss a Trek Movie but I
steadfastly refuse to support anything Cruise related

Forgive my ignorance of Trek lore but didn't Scott
Bakula play Pike in the TV series? Isn't that what's
Enterprise was about?
thx in advance

No, that would make, how you say...SENSE. Bakula played a Captain never
before referred to, some cat named Jonathan Archer. The NX-01 Enterprise
was not the Constitution class ship we know from the original series, but a
totally new design, which was supposed to come BEFORE the NCC-1701.
