Re: [scots-l] Schehallion

Does anybody here know anything of this? There seem to have been plenty of Schielhallions around. I don't think the parodies are connected with the Borders-based band of this name, which gigged mainly in the late 80s and early 90s, until their songwriter and singer Bruce Robson was killed (the tragic accident where the fire engine went through the parapet of Kelso's old bridge into the Tweed). They have recently reformed as a foursome but I heard nothing of this kind in the sets they have done so far. But possible could-be for you. Re: [scots-l] Schehallion
One of my favorite albums is called Schiehallion by a group called North Sea Gas. No parodies, though. All pretty straight ahead traditional tunes. Anent North Sea Gas: I've heard them on the radio lately - they have a new fiddler, a young woman, and are definitely worth hearing. A few years ago I would have said they were a group to avoid - bog-standard pub act, nothing distinctive about them. She's livened them up something amazing. They're playing in the village pub here shortly; the manager has started getting regular professional folk acts in, on top of hosting the folk club, the accordion and fiddle club, a Scottish country dance group and occasionally the brass band. === http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/jack/ === Posted to Scots-L - The Traditional Scottish Music Culture List - To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html
[kitchenceilidh] Scottish music shoutcast station back up
Okay, I am streaming Scottish music on the web again. Do a search on www.shoutcast.com for: Toby's Scottish Irish music and it will show. You'll be able to connect to it with Winamp, or XMMS, or any other decent mp3s player. Remember, do not look a gift horse in the mouth. Do not complain that the connection on your 28.8 bps modem being choppy, that I do not play enough Rankin Family, etc... :-) Toby Posted to Kitchenceilidh - The listserver for Canadian Maritime Musicians - To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html
[kitchenceilidh] Re: Scottish music shoutcast station back up
Actually it sometimes doesn't show up under the search string below. However it does seem to show up under a search for celtic... Hmm.. Re: [scots-l] Chisholm?
Christopher Rennie wrote: Hello All, Forgive the tangential left turn on this topic but Is Angus Chisholm any relation to Duncan Chisholm, fiddler of some fleeting youthful fame, particularly through the Scots rock band Wolfstone and some solo work. His solo album was a recent delightful surprise for me, not ordinarily overly-excited by solo fiddler albums. (Personal preference) Thanks if anyone has an answer. No. Angus Chisholm is one of the Chisholm's of Margaree Forks, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. In that family there are alot of really talented players like Cameron Chisholm and Maybelle Chisholm. Duncan Chisholm is of course from Scotland. I'm sure if you go far back enough, they could possibly be related. Of course if you go far back enough, I'm probably related to Roddie MacDowell :-) Beyond that, their styles are very different. Both great players though!
